kitchnz
New 195/45/14 tires fitted Wheel alignment - check... took it the long way off the trailer: and today - success with preliminary dyno tune. 122.5HP @ engine. will squeeze a few more with final tune. Sorry about the poor quality video, and holding phone sideways.... got a bit caught up in the moment 3 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
and today - success with preliminary dyno tune. 122.5HP @ engine. will squeeze a few more with final tune. Impressive for an A14 Did you go wth the BProjects rear transmission mount crossmember? Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
Impressive for an A14 Did you go wth the BProjects rear transmission mount crossmember? X2 My full on A15 race engine hit 156whp. That was at 8200rpm and it needed 112 race gas. Very impressive! Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
Reading some builds you learn a lot. as in, "I don't want to do it like that!" This build is the exact opposite! Keep polishing your Datsun with divine inspiration good Sir! Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
Thanks for the positive comments guys. I am pretty happy with power output, 130 would be nice, but who is to say I wont get close to that with final tune, and also as was still making power at 7,200 rpm, I may be able to tune up to nearer 8,000rpm too?... The engine is all balanced etc so should handle that I hope, and those iTB's would really be singing then! My A14 is 40 thou over so think it is like 1470cc or thereabouts. My last engine I dyno'd was a heavily worked A15 rally engine on side drafts, and it made 109Hp, so can't complain getting 10% more than that with 'my' setup. To be fair it is a huge relief given all the unknowns there was when I started on my ITB crusade! been about 5 years, lots of coin and good proportion of my remaining hair to get to this point. And no ggzilla, the 60A gearbox mount is my own design not B-Projects one. I would like one of them, but they translate to be about $400 delivered.... 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Stock A14 is all factory balanced and revs to 8500 rpm. So if you rebalanced after changing the pistons it should rev just as high You fitted +1.0 oversize Nissan pistons? Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
40 thou oversize Mazda pistons as I understand. not 100% sure on what model, but they were fly cut to clear valves, as a mate originally had the engine built not me Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
A14 with stock 76mm pistons is 1397cc .040 over (actually 1mm over) is 1434cc Mazda E5 pistons are sometimes used in A14s. They are 77mm but guys usually fit +1 oversize (78mm) and use the Nismo head gasket. Nissan pistons are specified in millimeters, but for some reason machinists like to say ".040 inch over" maybe because it sounds more hot-rod. A14 with 78mm Mazda E5 pistons is 1472cc. To use these pistons the block deck is cut down 2 or 3 mm. E5 is from Mazda 323/Familia/Ford Laser. Well worth it for 120+ HP! Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Where's the drool emoticon-face-thingy? Awesome stuff, wish my work looked half this clean when I was done with it. New aspirations are being made. Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
GGZilla you know your shit! my understanding it as exactly as you say Mazda E5's +1mm = 1472cc deck milled, and pistons fly cut to suit, has 18cc combustion chambers, so my calcs suggets 11.1:1 static C/R Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
and use I used a Nismo head gasket too  Quote Link to comment
Spoona_Jay21
this is GORGEOUS! Quote Link to comment
RandyWanger
Lovely car, looking forward to more updates. Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
Long over due update. exciting times for me, the car has been in the panel shop for the last 3-4 months extensive restoration was required to the doors, and front guards were subtly reshaped to allow for bigger wheels & more castor, and also flared slightly to match the rear guards. the panels are straight as an arrow, and the gaps between panels is near perfect. kitchnz
final block back and fill, and some reworked areas as they were only 99% perfect! My mate who runs the resto shop treats every car with same level of passion whether it be a classic american muscle car, rare english sports car or a humble 1971 Datsun 1200 coupe 1 Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
and in last few days, after 8 years being in primer, it is finally back in lush original red! apparently looks amazing (I agree looking at photos) however I am not allowed to see it until the weekend, after it has been polished up and panels refitted - I can't wait! 8 Quote Link to comment

hobospyder
I can honestly say that looks like it's meant to be that colour and that I like it and I'm very against the colour red and most warm colours for that matter. Nice looking paint right there Quote Link to comment
The Taterhead
Sexyness. Just straight sexyness right there. Quote Link to comment
831Sunny
so clearly factory looking Quote Link to comment
KiloTango1200
That looks awesome! Have you considered blacking out the chrome trim? I am doing mine in bright yellow and all the chrome is going to be powder coated black chrome. Quote Link to comment
kitchnz
Nah, i have NOS chrome bumpers & trim to go on. I have matched colour (as best we could) to original nissan paint selection chart. I want it to look like an immaculate original spec, as they are a beautiful looking car anyway only changes to outside, are subtly flaring of guards, GX style fender mirrors & lowered on JDM styled 14" wheels. I even ditched the chin spoiler I was going to throw on it. Cheers for your input and comments guys - only 2 more sleeps and I get to see it  1 Quote Link to comment
