I'm BLUE Posted June 1, 2013 Report Share Posted June 1, 2013 Hello There, I bought ArcheTypeDatsun's 81' 280zx turbo. (Thankyou Arche) Yes yes I know... another z-car ... I have a problem ... :rofl: I wasn't going to post anything until I was a bit further along with it , but thought I might get the ball rolling ! -Z31 300zx Turbo set up (ECU & MAF)-AiResearch T3/TO4E Turbo-Steeda Short Shifter (Aftermarket Mustang shifter)-Stock exhaust with 3" Megan muffler-Aluminum Koyo radiator dual electric fans-MSA front & rear sway bars-HID lights-Aftermarket headlights-Headlight covers-JVC stereo w/ Pioneer Speakers-16" Ultra Wheels-New NGK spark plugs-New Spark plug wires-New Cap & Rotor Pictures from a bit ago after being washed up. interior is clean and nice !! :thumbup: ------------------------------------Plans & Goals------------------------------------------------ -Get it fixed up and back up to daily driver status (I'll elaborate more on that as things progress) -finish paint touch up if possible -paint and hopefully mount a spare nice condition bumper. -go through and fix any small things etc etc. -plans go from there ! As far as the car itself goes... It's very apparent the previous owners loved the car inside and out.. (good job Arche) :thumbup: It's pretty neat to have a short throw shifter on the T5 transmission itself , and definetly a "different" feeling when shifting on this transmission ! Carefully pulling injector clip (if neccessary) Number all injector connectors for the lolz (thankyou PO) Taking off the fule feed line revealed a hidden tear... good to know ! Covering openings so crap doesn't get in. Harness ground (10mm head) Label and pull off all alternator wiring if need be Pull out the alternator Oil pressure switch (3) 14mm bolts on the power steering pump. Power steering pump lower 14mm bolts Idle control connection (orange dot is not a bad way to identify...) Throttle position sensor and connector Turbo J-pipe off throttle body area (10mm) Harness grounds (10mm) J-pipe breather tube leading to valve cover in this case. J-pipe popped off. I'm BLUE Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Share Posted June 22, 2013 This line leads to the wastegate actuator from the intake manifold. Throttle Linkage was going to get in the way .. So.. pulled the cotter key and washer out .. walla ! Screwdriv Pulled off the intake boot :) You guessed it. Carefully.... pulled back the EFI wiring harness to tuck back , so it won't get in the way. (looks like a mess but nearly most of it is def not ! ) Radiator bolts (2) = 10mm heads er stuck down there trying to un-screw a phillips head clamp off the intake boot. Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Share Posted June 22, 2013 Popped the radiator loose Pulled out a Thermostat temperature sensor stuck in an area of the radiator fins... out More harness and fan grounds. 10mm bolt. Brake booster hose... needs to come off ! off A random vacuum hose that wen't into the cabin ... spliced into some higher quality vacuum line ... hmmm will have to see what that leads to :) . Heater core hoses ... Turbo T5 transmission .. looks pretty dry ! overall under-carriage doesn't look too bad :) Quote Link to comment

Pulled off the exhaust from the turbo-downpipe (sorry was bright and couldnt get a good picture... :-/ ) (3) 14mm nuts. Recommend a deep socket + medium extensions + PB Blaster. Better picture of what's going on... Just about ready , so I bolted/attached the chain ( sorry ... load-leveler not close... ) Hood has to come off , and I decided to take it off at the hinges rather than at the hood.
