dotdat
My 620 rubber filler hose is cracked and rotted. This is the short curved 2 inch dia. hose connecting the metal fuel filler tube to the fuel tank. What can I use for a replacement? Quote Link to comment
Dawa
i was wondering that too. i thought i had posted it in my build thread but i just looked and couldnt find it. just take the old hose to any auto parts store and compare with what they have. they sell hoses by the foot in the back. dotdat
Did that already. The parts man said the curve was too sharp and a piece of straight hose would buckle when bent. Did a search and found nothing. Seems like someone else musta had an old wore out hose that needed replacing. I would guess that it has to be FUEL hose and not a curved piece of radiator hose. Dawa
i apologize for not reading your original post in full. i just assumed you were replacing the small fuel lines and not the actual filler neck. i have seen this problem on ratsun but didnt ever see what they ended up using. perhaps you could use a spring or wire and wrap it around the exterior of the hose and that will prevent collapse. also, i know some radiator hoses have springs (internal and perhaps external) ask to see the rad hoses maybe? Cardinal Grammeter
Lots of non-pics here. My fuel filler hose is bad too and looking for substitutes. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
One option is to have a muffler shop bend a piece of metal exhaust pipe, so you only have to get two short pieces of straight rubber fuel resistant hose to connect the filler neck, and tank. These guys will also make bends in different sizes, and materials. http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog/ 1 Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
Gates 24712, close enough (2" 45* bend) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Can't be rubber. Petroleum dissolves rubber. Just like Vaseline will dissolve a condom. Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
The Gates 24712 is fuel filler hose and cost $25. Found this Rubber Compatibility Chart (!) Gasoline proof is most likely nitrile. Viton is another one and that is used for carb needle and seats. Neoprene is NG. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Vaseline will dissolve a condom. That's right; give it to 'em dry! 1 Quote Link to comment
ramen tamer
I'm having the same problem with my filler hose. At first, it was just a slow drip and I thought it was my fuel line. But, the dripping got a lot faster and I thought my gas tank had maybe cracked or something. Went underneath the truck, today, and found out it was that hose. Anyways, I'm thinking of replacing it with this:http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/GAT0/23932/N0065.oap?ck=Search_N0065_-1_-1&pt=N0065&ppt=C0075#itemDetailTab_ It should work. Hopefully.
