1984 Datsun Maxima 910 Project.

Recommended Posts

I am gonna start a build thread for my 910. I bought this thing just before joining ratsun. and I intend to turn it into a fast, clean daily driver over time.

I have known about these chassis for a long time, but never thought seriously about getting one until I was left with a garage full of datsun parts, and had a family.

As I said I have a garage full of datsun parts. For one, a Nissan Borg Warner 5 speed which I will likely rebuild before installing. I have a megasquirt, and a fully rebuilt L28ET that just needs a turbo.

All of these parts, in addition to a bunch of other random things I have around here are from my 78' Z that I had years ago, which was in pretty bad condition rust wise.

I picked the car up a few weeks ago for $850. Luckily it is a rust free car, unfortunately, I dont think it has ever known the definition of the word "shade".

so the car is an automatic, or I should say was an automatic, I was going to keep it that way until I could afford to put in the borg warner, but the U joint in the driveshaft was bad and they are non serviceable and that turned into its own headache.

a custom drive shaft for the auto was $250, and im gonna have about $350 into the manual swap with the driveshaft and all, the parts I had to eventually buy for the borg warner anyway.

so I found one with a manual tranny an I am swapping it over right now.

so here is the issue, see the two tranny crossmembers on the ground?, okay, well the bigger one goes to the L4N71B tranny only offered in 83 and 84, the smaller one goes to all year manuals and the 81 and 82 autos with the 3 speed. so easy fix right? WRONG, the crossmember isnt only bigger, it sits 6 inches back, In fact, the tunnel is also 6 inches wider to accomodate for the larger transmission. so the auto mount that goes with the car is going to be modified and fabricated to mount the manual tranny on it

swapped the pedals too, at least nissan kept that simple, ish, once I found a maxima to rape all the parts off of.

Nice man, there was a member here that didn't post much but had a nice black 82 datsun maxima with a L28ET swap. He bought already with the swap had a top mount intercooler and a nice BMW front air dam. I have pics somewhere on my photobucket let me know I'll post some if you want.

heads up, you already have the clutch line. buuuut...

This guy here, is a bolt on for nissan. Correct fittings on both sides. Used it on the 510, even tho its for a 240sx.

Should be about the right length for you too.

that 240sx line is nice, I went to get the fittings for my line though and they gave them to me, cant argue with that.

post a few of those turbo pics up archetype, they will make for some good inspiration! that black color is hard to find too.

No it's from a BMW don't know what series but it's BMW, the member bought it this way already with everything you see. He bought pretty cheap from a lady it was her husbands car but he had passed away so she knew nothing that was done to it. I'll find his name last time he was around he tried selling it for $4500 I believe but a lot of members bashed his price. It had been on CL for a little while before he bought it.

He did do a lot of maintenance to it because it was running like crap before. Also if you are interested in more Maximas with L28ET builds there's plenty of them on HybridZ.org that's were I first saw the black maxima turbo. I have a 79 810 wagon and I want to do the L28ET swap but I really like the good ol' L24E runs so good maybe in the future.

I will keep an eye on the 280zx racks, but most I have found are power steering, idk why.

I prefer the look of no power steering too, it cleans up an engine bay, and gets rid of one more thing that holds fluid. less maintenance, ect...

but I would like to see someone put EPS (electronic power steering) into a datsun, that would be awesome. EPS is better than fluid power steering in so many ways its ridiculous, much less loss of feel and no stupid lines going everywhere, no leaks either. my civic has it and it is pretty sweet.
