--- Black 81'zxt --- (In progress)

I'm BLUE

------ Getting the car , washing it , and taking oics -------

I made a trip about 1.5 hours away nearly ... a bit ago .. to see this car.

A 280zx turbo , and auto-matic none the less !

Walking around the car and at first glance ... I was like ... hmmmm ... I kinda like this ... no wait...  I like this.

I mean it's a turbo , cruise control , T-tops , automatic , A/C , Black everywhere , and snow-flake wheels on yokohama tires.

A couple of pictures (paint isn't as good as the pictures make it , but it looks nice either way imho :-) )

It is an 81' not later 82-83 bumper style which was slightly-surprising at first glance. The front bumper was painted black along with the rest of the car , and ad the wheel combination gives it that kinda nice tasteful edge to it.. without screaming aftermarket "this" or "that" lolz.

Now only if I had lepard skin steering wheel cover , and shifter cover to complete this heart seat-covers masterpiece... :ninja:

Well starting and running the car for a few seconds at idle revealed a slight "miss"..

What's a fellow to do other than pull one plug wire at a time to find the dead cylinder right ?

After performing that quick test the lucky cylinder to be pointed a finger at was #3.

Couldn't be more than a spark plug or fuel injector connector right ?

I pulled the fuel injector connector first ... oh mai ... it was indeed the fuel injector connector and the fuel injector itself... Re-manueffturd injectors at that ..errrrrrrr... :-/

At that point in time I had to leave the car sitting until I had funds and time to get to it.

Besides I still could start , stop , drive it around if need be ... on 5 cylinders ...

Today was the day I was really able to get around to some of the task at hand !

So I pulled together my bob the builder tool-kit , and away I wen't opening the hood with ball-pein hammers in hand ready for battle !

Then when that didn't work I stood there and swore at it threatening it with the biggest wiffle-ball bat of all time... filled with nitrogen for moar even pretend beating.

Now that's out of the way... some "real" (easy) work ...

1367472984_zpsfa22aa43.jpg

I made sure to plug the hole(s) ... don't want any foreign debris in there ... lol

Fuel rail with injectors pulled

1367472984_zpsfa22aa43.jpg

1-4 (on the left) injectors are re-manufactured ... or N/A's  ( I have no real way of telling yet whether a re-man is proper for a turbo or not... ... looking for info tonight. I do know the basic zxt and zx factory colored body injectors)

5-6 are Nissan ZXT oem injectors :ninja: .

1367472898_zps07d47ced.jpg

#3 was the culprit so off the rail comes !

1367290084_zpsb1ed8e4e.jpg

#3 ... psshhhh why you have to be difficult ?

1367290041_zpsbf17c708.jpg

and while I was inspecting the rest of the injectors. ... #1 wanted to be special and join #3.

rusted prong/erroded  ... water must have sat on both for a stretch of time ... and bad enough it'll probably snap/break down the road if I don't replace it now !

1367473315_zps21a4f05d.jpg

1367473220_zps9f4d8bb4.jpg

It's nice to have (2) fuel rails to make (1) complete "good" one out of sometimes ! and that's how this is getting done :D

(a couple more pics coming hammuck ! ollz)

Some injector cleaning was in order !

Ghetto injector cleaning that is...

If I was going to spend the time pulling the fuel rail and such ... and not replace all (6) injectors ... I was gonna try at least cleaning them suckers ! :D

1367474886_zps018fe484.jpg

1367474944_zpsd1e4cc29.jpg

On the LEFT = Clean "Sea Foam" Fuel injector cleaner.

On the RIGHT = Poo stream from all (6) injectors.

(not to dirty really..)

1367475029_zpsadda4eb4.jpg

(Don't get excited hammuck... it's not pee .... )

1367475269_zps6168cbc6.jpg

Injectors all clean and waiting to be put in :)

1367475483_zpsd816d9a4.jpg

1367475093_zps044781d3.jpg

I just like this shot..

1367475328_zpsc395c9c1.jpg

Got paranoid of debris , so cleaned and taped off the ends everywhere on the fuel rail.. I know I know...  haha !

1367475557_zps682a56b3.jpg

Going back in.. (it's easier for me to install all injectors at the same time with them on the rail , but might have to install rail seperate we shall see :) )

1367475483_zpsd816d9a4.jpg

^^^ small stuff really , but it takes time here or there.

S#$% I gotta work on that :(

need moar angles of the wheel...

Be sure to get some pics of your ranger in the background

 ... that even spoils it for me ! LOL

Burn out video!

Maybe I'll put on shitty tires first and lay down some water ...

It probably could  ... the way the auto-magic transmission engages is like " *click click into D* Boom ... LET's GO !!! " hehe.

Nice man that ZXT is superb how many miles?

Thanks ArchetypeDatsun  !

The 5-digit odometer says (46,515) , it very well could be the simple 146,515 miles

sweet car! boost makes everything better

Thanks Eagle_Adam  I think so to :D

Boost does indeed make things more betta :ninja: lulz

Really sweet find, I really dig the color and wheel combination  . I may need to do this cleaning and find other injectors as  I may have 2 dead ones.

Thanks PrmeLuxeZ !

Yeah I definetly agree that the Black + gold snow-flakes ( black gold ) = nice !

I'd recommend doing the fuel system cleaning for sure. There are a few ways , methods and brands/procedures to do.

Mine was the cheapest  (but not neccessarily the most effective for the ENTIRE fuel system :) ).

Hey DTP put the 16's on it would look nice.

My parts car was one of these 1981 280zxt there pretty common but hard to find in good shape like yours.

I thought about that as well :sneaky: :ninja: ;)

I haven't decided as those 16's make anything look

Yeah I wasn't sure entirely how common zxt stuff is anymore and I appreciate that !

Your parts car definetly looked like it was in very GOOD shape before it got plowed :( :-/

----Finishing Fuel Injector/rail install + random coolant hoses -----

Wen't ahead and stuck all the cleaned injectors back in (#4 is point wrong way lulz .. opps .. corrected ! )

1367541445_zpsf56cbf1a.jpg

While putting the fuel rail in last night ... noticed this little bugger of a location.. coolant hose needed replacing.

1367541493_zps637ff77b.jpg

And another coolant hose that should be replaced ... and it literally fell apart/un-wound as I was taking it off ... lolz. ( glad I replaced it ).

1367541528_zps317d89b9.jpg

1367541594_zps3e6845d4.jpg

While I was doing the other 2 ^^^ I might as well replace this one as well. ( wasn't sure if bad or not , but what do I have to lose ? )

1367541569_zpsca51b978.jpg

Replaced this one to

1367541653_zpscb8bf933.jpg

1367544863_zpsaae7d6f8.jpg

1367544925_zps2e7d2ac2.jpg

Fuel rail in and complete along with those darn hoes ^^ ollz.

1367544721_zps27a1aab5.jpg

^^^ In the above picture.. I also very temporarily put on a good Fuel Injector connector until my Brand New set of injector connectors arrive. I can then solder them in as set like they're meant to be.

Seems like small stuff , and it really is , but all the small stuff leads to big problemo's fast as we all know

She runs smooth after the cleaning and responsive.

No leaky fuel anywhere... yet ... ;)

I still want to replace most of the vacuum lines.

I believe Nissan originally said the vacuum lines were to be serviced around 10,000 mile interval bench-marks , and I've only seen 1 zx (that I've owned or worked on) that the previous owner did good on replacing them !

The rest of the zx's ... well .... yeah .... lol

------ Charging System -----

I tore off the original alternator that came on this car as it was having charging issues after a quick test with a multi-meter at the battery and alternator.

Here is the original and it's a "Nissan re-manufactured" alternator.

1367546534_zps90ca7cb3.jpg

In it's defense it looks like it's been there a while and served it's term..

I then next dug through my stash and threw on another zx alternator..

also say's "re-manufacturd" right on it .... great....

1367543098_zps2c42cda7.jpg

And the results ? This one is bad to... no chargy ... ( I knew I should have had them all tested before wasting my time lol )

1367543071_zpsb6147925.jpg

I had (1) more zx alternator to try at this point , but decided to make sure it was good before wasting my time again haha  der der .

So... I then took all (3) alternators mentioned above down the O'reily's auto-parts and have them test them for me :D .

Original alt on the car = bad

1st alt replacement = bad

2nd alt yet to be replacement choice = good :D

^^^ glad to hear all those test results actually ... means no wiring problems for me in relation to the charging issue.

On the left = original alternator on the car

On the right = 2nd replacement zx alternator that tested good ! (yet to be installed).

a63c0261-e85c-479a-ab6e-0b7149d7c2b1_zps

Before I install the 2nd replacement alternator .. I have a bushing/ear mounting issue as the holes on the 2nd replacement are much larger than the original alternators are. Also the bolts in the alt brackets are much to small to just "fudge" it by. I will have to make a bushing , hard copper , or go to Ace Hardware to find something that will work to support the weight evenly :). I can also use my 12-press to push stuff in and out with hehe.

1367543255_zpsb3a2d3fc.jpg

There is also a "P" terminal on the back of original zx alternator ^^^ that came off the car originally.

There was nothing connected to it nor any signs on the engine harness that indicated anything was meant to plug into it.

The replacement alternator does not have one , but I am not really worried about it.

Close up of the alternator ear hole difference

1367543235_zps3d12c2d0.jpg

I'll figure out something to center the sucker

Again ... lots of little things , but they make the difference !

I'll tear both alternators that tested "bad" down to see if I can't fix myself on a later date.

Thanks fer reading.

Hard at work on the s130, no name for it? I like cars with names. Its my fetish.

Anyways, this makes me want to do some work under the hood, which is really needed, especially fuel lines, and hoses.

Hardly working on my s130 it seems more like ...

I have not really even given a thought to a name yet honestly !?... hmmmm... good point.

Well better that is your fetish than mine  haha.

Good to hear some of my s130 stuffs inspires ya to work on yours

Yeah definetly replace the hoses in your s130.

It's amazing how some of the hoses can be utterley bad and you just can't see or feel that they are indeed ... bad ! :)
