datzenmike
When someone thinks they can hold my pictures hostage and tries to extort $399 a year to look at them BIG mistake, HUGE! I don't forget. You are the Fram of picture hosting sites. 2 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I just got a e-mail from Photofuck offering 29.99 a year. How many pics do you have in your account? ....or what level is it? Is that an upgrade to a free account? Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I'm sticking with them. They never failed me, since I never was looking for a free ride. No way in hell that I'm going to use facebook. Not looking for a free ride either.....I've had a pro account with them for a really long time. I've put a huge amount of effort and time into loading 9000 pics/vids onto that account......then they yank all the linking and say I've got to pony up $400 to make all my posts valid again........that's complete BS and extremely poor ethics. If they get away with it....how long will it be before they try the same crap again. I used to love them and sing their praises....then they started getting bogged down with way too many ads. I could see an increase in the subscription price.....even up to 50%....maybe even double....just to maintain my pics and links.....but $400 is an insane price and I'd be happy to tell them where to stick it. My renewal comes up in Aug. If they don't offer me a way better deal than $400, I'll let it die. I've downloaded and saved everything from PB, but I won't be taking the time to fix my threads. If I do anything along those lines, I will create a page on my website and then put a link in my thread to it. There's no way in the world I'm going to try to recreate 8000+ links. lol 3 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I agree Mike. Mike why do you not load your pictures and videos to your Blues Hands site and not deal with them any more. Maybe your son and daughter could up load them for you. Quote Link to comment

There's no way in the world I'm going to try to recreate 8000+ links. lol I didn't know they had killed some pro accounts. Mine was never touched. Maybe I just lucked out. I would have been pissed too. But consider, things change, companies make mistakes, just look at the chevy corvair, or ford pinto. They killed people. Facebook was sharing your personal info with anyone who paid them, and still are, that is how they make their money. Nothing lasts forever, so what happens if flicker gets bought out, or just goes belly up? Quote Link to comment
flyerdan
Flickr was bought out by Smugmug, which the new TOS email that will soon be hitting your inboxes will detail. Comparing PB to the Corvair or Pinto would be comparable if every.single. Pinto burst into flame when you opened the door, or every.single Corvair turned turtle when you moved the wheel. Facebook was (and probably still is) flogging your info behind the scenes. Photobucket had the incredibly stupid idea to ransomeware every.single. user's account, which is impossible to bluff your way out of by blaming user error, platform incompatibility, etc. Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
Not 'every single' photobucket account was effected. Ransomware ? You don't have any idea what ransomeware is, do you....... Quote Link to comment
paradime
"Ransomware" may not be an accurate term, but holding your digital media hostage (to what ever degree) and demanding money to reestablish access to your media seems like ransomwhatever to me. 1 Quote Link to comment
paradime
Has anybody here used SmugMug? is it a stable/reliable platform? Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I agree Mike. Mike why do you not load your pictures and videos to your Blues Hands site and not deal with them any more. Maybe your son and daughter could up load them for you. I can do that....it's just a huge pain and with 9000+ pics.....I don't have much interest in doing it. Everything I do now is on video and then on youtube. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
As long as you expect free hosting, expect to get screwed. Photobucket/etc don't make any money from advertising with 3rd party hosting... Quote Link to comment

Facebook was sharing your personal info with anyone who paid them, and still are, that is how they make their money. Nothing lasts forever, so what happens if flicker gets bought out, or just goes belly up? Hmmm....now that you mention it......I don't think my links died, but I wasn't sure that I could see mine because I was always logged in. Someone made an extension which I used for awhile, then chrome updated and it allowed the links to be seen. They sent me an email saying that I'd be grandfathered with the current account until Dec of this year. If I can renew at the same deal as I have now, I will...but it they expect me to pay much more, I'm just going to let it die. I never saw any info that said the pro accounts were not touched.....so maybe I got caught up in everyone else grief. Either way....their platform sucks now with all the ads on it and it's really frigging slow. The video links are never good and the audio/vid sync is off on the ones I've checked. There's been old threads I bring up that say the links don't work anymore. PB changed something causing the link to die. I have to go back and try to find it and relink it. I know I never changed anything. I don't really want to kill all the threads I've made and all the pics/vids I've posted, but there's no way I'm going back to using PB. They cost me money......but if I post my content to youtube, I get paid. Quote Link to comment

Photobucket/etc don't make any money from advertising with 3rd party hosting... YouTube seems to have done alright without ads in their 3rd party hosting. Maybe a banner ad above picts would have been a less scam-ish way for PB to have made money? 1 Quote Link to comment

mklotz70
Photobucket pulled their head out of their butts and changed up their policy and services to allow third part hosting without expensive packages. Quote Link to comment

wayno
I got this earlier today, back to the photos on Photolame being useless again. I have not uploaded a photo to that site in years, they should be labeled with a new name, Photogone. datzenmike
I don't know about others but when I view someon's PB picture, superimposed over it is a banner saying "Proudly hosted by Photobucket" or some such nonsense. Photobucket is absolutely unbelievable and I will NEVER up load another picture there again. They need to fuck off and die as an example of what greed can do to other picture hosting sites. 2 Quote Link to comment
