Wanted: Any or all parts to rebuild dash on '73 510! Will pay whatever is fair

Recommended Posts

Rebuilding my 510 piece by piece.  Motor is in working condition now, so time to start on the interior.  I am looking to replace the entire dash, minus the glove compartment and actual instruments (those all work fine).  Anything helps and I can pay shipping too, to Oregon.  Also on the lookout for any other random interior items as well.  The entire interior is pretty much shot.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Keep in mind if your car is really a 1973 model year, that the headlight & wiper switches are different .........the 73 switches should be illuminated, and the 73 heater control head is FLAT.........the 70-72 control head is curved out.  The dash top pad, and the gauge/radio/glovebox panels are all the same for 70-73.  The 73 should also have rear window defrost, thus a defrost on-off switch to the right of the ashtray.  The 73 parts are hard to find, cuz they didn't build alot of 73's.  Hope that helps!!

Thanks for the responses.  I am in Central Oregon, but frequently am in the Salem area as well.  Thanks for the info on the switches and controls.  The rear defrost has never worked, and that's part of why I need to tear into the dash.  The headlight switch also seems to have shorted out as well.

David -  The instruments and glove compartment are in good working condition, but the actual dashboard, instrument panel cover, stereo mount, steering column cover, and metal vent guard all need replacing.  They are cracked, worn, rusted or just plain ugly.  I'll get some pictures of what I am doing up later this weekend, but the entire interior has been neglected for years and needs a total overhaul.

Thanks

Matt

As you may already be aware, the dash pads are hard to find in NOS (New Old Stock) condition and you will pay a good sum if you find one.  Depending on your budget and needs, you may be able to be OK with a dash cap made of plastic.  The apperance is OK for the average 510 owner on a budget.

One other item that may be available aftermarket is the side vents.  I have heard speculation that the 240Z reproduction parts do fit a 510.

One other item that comes to mind is the heater control valve.  The 510 ones are NLA (No Longer Available) from Nissan but you may be able to use the Datsun 620 truck valve internal components.  These valves are still available from Nissan.

Matt,

I have gauge surrounds, radio surrounds, steering column covers and vent guards in good used condition.

I have an NOS dash pad but as D52E said, It is Pricey.

The replacement side vents from Motorsport Auto fit great and look like the originals.

That is not an exact replacement of the original as the OG was not clear but I have one of these replacements and it fits well and is much brighter then stock.
