zed1
While disassembling my 520, I found remnants of the rubber splash guards, items 18 & 19 at http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun520/Datsun520521Index/Body/FrontView/tabid/1493/Default.aspx Does anyone have a photo of the splash guard or a template of the guard? Thanks, Keith Quote Link to comment
Rocket Dog
Here's a thread with some ideas for mud flaps. Quote Link to comment
zed1
These splash guards are not mud flaps that attach to the body behind the wheels. The splash guards are attached to the inner front fender liner. Their purpose is to keep road debris out of the engine compartment. Keith Quote Link to comment
wayno
This is the driverside. This is the passenger side. These photos are of a 1970 521, I wouls suspect this area is basically the same as a 520. Quote Link to comment
XXL
Hmmm... someone needs to cough up a good pair (temporarily) so we can get a template out of them. Quote Link to comment
DatWifey
If someone actually can get more made, I have a set that are pretty complete (just slight blemishes) that I'll loan. Quote Link to comment
wayno
I took my 521 splash guards out to check fit on my 520, and I have decided that the 520s are slightly different, around the front brake line threw the fender well areas for sure, but since I lowered the 520, I had to cut some inner fender well area, so now I have not a clue how the original 520 guards were shaped. DatWifey
Where did you guys find the rubber sheeting to make new ones? We currently have the motor out of the 521, and I kind of want to throw the splash guards in, but figure I might as well make new ones if I can find new rubber in a somewhat timely fashion. Charlie69
Rubber Sheet Roll but it is not cheap! http://store20.prestostore.com/catalog.php/rsrstore/pd2150415 Or Budget http://store20.prestostore.com/catalog.php/rsrstore/dt74670/pd2086864/GENERAL_PURPOSE_RUBBER_.125_X_36.00__X_48.00_ Quote Link to comment
DanielC
It is just flat rubber sheet. I would think you could find material similar, by contacting an industrial gasket company. Grainger might have something suitable. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Skin diver's wet suit Neophrene material? If it can withstand diver sweat and salt water mud should be a relief. Quote Link to comment
zed1
I purchased both 12" x36" pieces of 1/16" and 1/18" rubber sheet from an industrial supply store. I have not layed out the template to determine which thickness to use. I'll post here when I have the rubber cut. BTW, I also found the brass split brads and matching washers at a local fastener supply company. They are very close to the original one. Keith Quote Link to comment
DatWifey
Awesome. Thanks for the replies and suggestions. :) Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
The 1/16" is to light weight in my opinion, splashing water will push past it drenching your distributor. Quote Link to comment
