Street Racing... Read First Before Posting Your Story

Recommended Posts

I'll dispense with the lectures about street racing when normal driving is dangerous enough these days. We are all guilty of doing, trying, watching, enjoying or bragging about what we do and got away with in our cars. We all do stupid things, myself included. I think we should set a good example for others of all ages, so stories about doing anything on the street that a police officer would ticket you for, shouldn't be here. If you are not sure then don't bother posting.

I completely agree! Those stories should be kept to yourself or a group of trusting friends, not posted on the internet.  I myself have quite a few stories but nothing i'm willing to share.  Like Datzenmike said, lets be a good example for the rest of the car community out there!

Strange.... hearing/ or not hearing other peoples stories wouldn't have changed the knuckle head shit I did in cars as a kid.

Only age and the realization of consequences mildly curbed the excitement of fast cars. So why not tell a few stories and stop pretending that somehow the next generation is going to do anything different.

Well some lessons can be and should be learned,And if someone here prevents someone from doing a dastardly stupid act then let it be.

Some could and would say promoting, " pocket " that part from a wreckers would be ....

just saying

I really don't think what I've done or what little of that I might still do again in a weak moment could influence anyone. The reason I don't post the crazy stories is the way the community reacted when I did. I was a newb, I was a little over the top (I used to live there),but people freaked the fuck out on me. Its stupid to admit you did anything you can get in trouble for on the open net anyway. In short, I agree :-)

I remember a time when drinking and driving was not given much thought even though it was technically illegal. Cops were somewhat understanding if you had had a few. Most people never talked about something that was simply accepted often thought of as humorous. Today is so much different and drinking and driving is socially unacceptable to everyone. Yes it still happens, but surely there must be tens of thousands of people daily who think first and then don't because of the penalties and the stigma attached to such behavior. Drinking like racing can be done is a safe atmosphere .

I'm sure we have all done stupid things, but I agree with Mike.

IMO posting illegal activities on this forum makes it seem like the forum approves of that behaviour. While I don't feel we should be crazy about it and lock any and all threads telling about some illegal activities, I feel that we shouldn't praise these acts. Keep the racing on the track and show what your car can really do, rather than 'racing" on the street putting lives in danger and not knowing if the other guy is holding back in case a cop is round the bend.

I have found ratsun.net to be a great community, and while there are those that will praise getting your datto to 120mph on some major highway near you, there are just as many people who will step up and let the person know that behaviour like that on public roads is not appreciated.

I grew up in (and recently moved back to) a rural Oklahoma town with a population of about 2,800. My senior class only graduated 55 or so if that gives you an idea of size, and we started senior year with 72 but lost several due to stuff like pregnancy, dropping out because they were 18 and could, or getting a "REALLY good job" in the oil/natural gas field paying upwards of $9/hour; if that gives you an idea of the culture. Drinking and driving was done unashamedly. We would usually end up going out to one of the 20 or so spots outside of town where we could drink and play music and get a little loud and silly without much chance of getting busted. And when someone was ready to go home they just got in their car and left. No matter how much they had to drink or how far they had to drive. And 90% of the time nobody said a word to try and discourage them. Looking back I cannot believe how insanely lucky I was not to have been killed or more likely killed someone else, or ended up with a DUI. Although like you said, the police usually just looked the other way if you were caught drinking and driving and not just completely wasted; especially if you played football (which I did). Also, more times than I could count, the cops would find out where we were and come out just to tell us to clean up after ourselves and be careful. And a few times they showed back up later off duty and drank with us. It's just completely insane to me that this was ok to people.

But also, as you said, things have changed even here (although not as much as in more "civilized" parts of the world. The local police and sheriff's departments have really started cracking down; unfortunately for some of my retarded friends (and relatives) who have ended up with DUIs. I actually had a conversation with one of my best friends since middle school last summer, and he was talking about how all the cops were assholes and they had given this person a DUI and were trying to bust this other guy drunk on the way home from the bar, and I said, "why the eff don't they just not drive after hey e been drinking?!" And he acted like that wasn't even a possibility. Like it had never and would never have occurred to him. Luckily, nobody close to me has been involved in a serious accident that was drinking related, but I kinda feel like it's only a matter of time with lines of thought like that.

Sorry. Went off on a tangent there. Just felt like I needed to share that.

So yeah. Racing and drinking and driving are both dangerous and shouldn't be glorified.

I think my car is faster than your average street car, but I never speed, literally. I have been shown the finger so many times by people for going the speed limit on a race car. I lost a friend street racing in LA many years ago and have seen one guy in pieces in his car for speeding and drunk. Also, at blue lake some mighty super drunk SOB rear ended my 510. He is serving an 18 month prison sentence and I am waiting to sue his ass. Anyway, had he not rear ended me and had I not hold him down for police to arrive, he could have ran over someone. Too many dumb people are proud of their negligence.

Actually....i've raced on closed streets/strip....wrecked a few cars while impaired and even lost my license for many years.

Was nothing to go to another town 25 miles away and look for the fastest car while cruising around.

Quite a rush....rarely lost with the 'Bird'.

But....that was a different time.....many moons ago.

Today I look back and think WTF?????.......thank 'God'... I/We never killed anyone.

Too many close calls....younger males (as I) are genetically inherent to 'prove them selves'...so to speak.

Now...instead of a 6 pack...I only take 2 up the mountain...errrr...dogs that is.

Taking the back road and troll Ratsun... :D
