New member here, just wanting to share my s30 with every one and see what people think.

a little back story: I was browsing the CL ads and came across a 240z with a horrible description, horribly small pictures that did not show much if anything about the car and or it's condition. I decided hey I could use a good project car and went to look at it.  After driving 40 miles to this small obscure town close, my brother and I found ourselves driving in these back suburb communities looking and hoping we were in the right area. Looking at the houses to try and read the address I see an awesome old car driving at us. Turns out it was the seller taking it for a little test drive down the block just to make sure it ran when I got there and did what a normal car should do. the car was in rough shape outside and inside. The seller was a younger kid who was selling the car for his dad. He did not do much if anything to the car as his mechanic skills were low. I test drove the car down the block and back. I fell in love with it once I got into the drivers seat. The brakes were non existent and the motor was horribly out of tune. There were burnt parts in the engine bay telling me a fire had taken place at one point in its life. Before he owned it the car sat in a sunny field in North Dakota for years were it was rotting and going to die. His dad bought the car and let his son drive it until it became unsafe to drive any longer. he was asking 1500, I offered 1000 cash money and he bit. That day I  drove home with no brakes but a smile from ear to ear.

that is the seller with the car in the condition I purchased it in.  the tires were completely shot, little to know brakes, motor out of tune, floor pans rusted through. so began a huge project, I bought a wire feed welder the next week and began the repairs. I gutted the interior and tossed all the old moldy bits. then attacked the floor pans with a 3 inch cut off wheel and lots of compressed air.

I form metal for a living so I have access to a lot of scrap metal which is just what I needed.  sheared up a couple pieces, hand formed a couple bends and tack welded the new floors in place. being it was a learning experience of welding and rust repair it took longer then it should have. Being anxious to get it into a drive able state I kicked ass and finished welding in .104 thick mild floor pans (a big step up from the .040 floor pans I cut out).    I needed to test out the welds and the strength of the new boards.

floor pans were solid, had a set of momo bucket seats from and old volvo race wagon, so I made brackets from the datsun seats work with the momo buckets.  having good solid buckets makes spirited driving a blast and gives you the confidence of not being thrown around on the inside while throwing the car around. a must for people who like spirited driving. the car was coming along great. with each pay check that came in, more money went into the pit.. I mean the Z.  new performance brakes all around make for good stopping, the car came with out of tune flat tops with leaky floats.  with my keen eye on CL I picked up a no name header along with a set of recently rebuilt round top s.u's for 200. another week goes by and CL provides me with 14 inch  shelby mesh rims for 100 bucks. they had pitting and could use paint. so I gave them hell and cleaned them up. the car was looking a bit better then when I purchased it.

more money means more go fast goodies and other goodies for the s30. I picked up a front and rear bre spoiler (fiberglass) from msa. got me a set of free genuine talbot berlin green dot mirrors. (very rare).  I took off the bumpers and cleaned up the outside a bit more. things were starting to come together.  with the engine running better then it has in years, I wanted and needed more power.  CL came through again and provided me with a fully built race motor.  650 bones and it was delivered to my garage (thanks Andy M.)    27,000 on the rebuild. l24 bored out .60 to a 2.7l,  super comp cam 460 lift 280 duration. upped compression, mallory electronic ignition, weber dvgs, double valve springs and some other things done to it. the day the motor was dropped off to me. I tore into the car and had the whole thing done in a day. the car was really coming together then. oh yeah I bought  the triple weber dcoe 40 kit from msa. so 1700.00 is the most I have ever paid for any type of car part. I never have paid over that for a whole car either. the carbs were a treat to myself for getting an awesome car and going places at my job.  this was one of the first start up after the motor swap with the new carbs. oh also twice pipes from the header back. sounds amazing and screams.

the s30 was looking a lot better all around and driving like a brand new car.

winter was rapidly coming and the amount of days I had left to drive my Z were dwindling. I bought myself a 1972 amc ambassador with a 5.9l 360 for 600 dollars.  it was slammed to the ground and rode like crap but it looks too good. shot from getting back and cleaning up one car. the Z showed all the dirt from the back farm roads on the way back from getting said wagon.

so now, winter is here and the car is parked in the garage till the salted roads are no more. next week brand new 16 inch rotas will be here for the Z. fender flares will be in the future along with new suspension. I have been working on all the important mechanical parts before paint and body work.  she has some scars from the 40 + years on this earth!  I shot a 2 minute video of me pulling the datsun out of the garage, getting ready to go to work. the hood was taken off for the bad ass factor.    I plan on updating this more as things progress. I hope you all enjoy the story the videos and the pictures!

any questions I will gladly answer!

The twice pipes sound loud as hell but good. A club member that comes out to our fun runs has them, much louder in person then in vids lol.

My beef is the 10 HP loss vs a 2.5" along with the extra weight.
