Anybody try these flares on a Datsun 1200

Has anybody tried these bubble flares from Legend motorsports in CA. They look similar to the 1200 specific ones that classic datsun sells but Im sure there would be more cutting and massaging necessary. These are a little cheaper but would it be worth it to get the dat1200 ones from classic?

I have a friend that has them but dont think he has mounted them yet, they took him forever to get once ordered

Is he mounting them on a 1200? I would like to see how they look size wise compared to the classicdatsun flares and how much modification they would need to make them work

The CDM flares are a true bolt-on. Zero modification necessary. That's what I have on my car.

And FYI they are an identical copy of the Japanese flares on the car shown previously.

I understand about saving money, but what's your time worth?    B)

If the CDM flares bolt straight on, and the other flares take many hours of modification, lots of trial and error, numerous test fits, etc...

If u ask my employer.... No that much, Haha. It would be nice not having to worry about making a bad cut....the ones from legends do closely resemble CDMs (closest ive come across) with the bubble design and the rivet location style..... Hmmmm

I got mine from Les. Bought tons of fiberglass parts from him over the years, never had a problem. Have had to wait a few times though. The 510 and Z stuff he usually keeps on the shelf. The 1200 stuff moves quite slowly so it's all made after you order it. I think my flares took 3 weeks to make, and 2-3 days to ship? I'd give him another call. And then another.  B)

While he is somewhat expensive, and has rubbed a few people the wrong way, he's not a crook. But for the last few years he outsources all the fiberglass production. So he's sort of at the mercy of the fiberglass shop. He just owns the molds, he doesn't actually make any of it.

df, i know you know your shit but you did notice the ebay pic of the sanitora that had the flares installed, right?

Yes, and they look like hammered dog shit.

I've bought no less than 3 sets of flares so far looking for the best fit. First the TE27 flares (fit decent, but not great), second those universals from that exact same seller (way too wide, doesn't fit the wheel openings right, tried them on 3 different 1200s), and lastly the CDM flares. They aren't perfect looks wise (prefer a more "ZG" style), but they fit perfectly.

You'll notice in that pic on ebay that they scrunched them up to get them to fit front to rear, and they pull away from the body and leave air gaps between the flare and body all the way around.

I'm not saying they can't be made to work on a 1200, far from it. But seeing as how they aren't much cheaper than the CDM flares, I can't see doing it unless you just absolutely hate these...

The only thing I don't care for about the CDMs is that most of the installations that I've seen have the rivets uneven

FWIW, they don't come pre-drilled. So some of that unevenness you see is probably installer error.  ^_^

I used aluminum rivnuts and stainless screws instead of rivets. That means no rust and the ability to take them off any time I need to. Rivets are bad.
