Sora, My 78' KC

Dat Lurka

Recommended Posts

She made a 60 miles interstate trip back to home. L20b with a Z 5 speed. Was told engine was rebuilt 2 years ago. No receipts or books or anything. It looks and runs like a recently rebuilt engine. The cam and cam towers are clean as a whistle. No oil blowing out the exhaust. Carburetor functions as one should. She is mostly complete and original. A lot of options I've been wanting are on this truck. Sliding rear window, chrome rain guards, large door mirrors, possibly working A/C, Datsun mudflaps, and cool factory wheels. The A/C components are all there. The compressor turns easily and I was told the belt was removed because the condenser leaks.

The Carrier bearing and housing are nonexistent. The passenger floorboard has also disappeared. Transmission feels dry and It pops out of 5th when accelerating. Driver door lower hinge needs to be welded. Hard to open it from the outside. I believe I can get everything taken care of within the month. Hopefully she will be with me for a long time. I'm a little emotional right now.

Stereo and equalizer work fine and will probably stay right where they are. I'll probably hide a nice stereo with a card reader somewhere. It's got the jockey box. Vent pull is disconnected but doesn't appear to be broken. The mess was free.

Someone please explain this to me. I heard it was part of the deluxe options. I guess to protect the paint from key scratches?
Is it supposed to be textured that way?  For finding the keyhole when you're drunk?

Nice Truck Lurker!  She looks like "Blues"  Wild & Crazy long lost twin sister.  She just needs a few weeks of TLC to get back on her feet and she'll be rockin good as new!

Blue sends her love!

(And yes, Blue has always been the pretty one ;-) )

I'm looking for blue 103 and I'm gonna have it painted. I'd just buff it out and kill the rust but it has clearcoat

Going blue with black pin striping and lots of chrome. I sprayed the grill silver. It looks good. Need to trim it in black take some pics. I'll get it chromed eventually.

This truck is going to be low and pretty. With some modern amenities inside and out. Full flairs, lip, and visor.

I'm leaving in the morning. Driving the truck to Florida. Hope everything goes well. I'll be making enough money there to get what I need done on the truck. Then I'm going to buy a sailboat big enough to live on and put a Datsun engine in it. At which point I'll disappear.

Me too, I haven't seen on like it. Still waiting for the chance to redo the padding and cloth.

So I've been couchsurfing in Florida for a little over a week now. The datto has done me well. Had to replace the send line and filter at the tank. Speedometer cable died leaving Atlanta but it was already in bad shape. About to run out of money but have a few things to do this week.

Keep it awesome Ratsun.

 Peace.

Update time!

Been driving, working, and living out of my truck for a month and a half. Runs like a champ. Plenty of things to fix still. Haven't had the time or funds to do what I need to do but soon enough I will. I'm working full time plus side jobs. Florida is nice as ever. It's starting to warm up and I'll be fixing the A/C asap.

I've had progressively worse valve noise. It seems to be coming from #2. I pulled the cover earlier and there was nothing out of the ordinary. The engine is ultra clean. Definitely trust the previous owner telling me he rebuilt it a couple years ago. Pics arent great but maybe you can see how clean it really is!

Also, the cam has funky grind marks between the lobes.

Sora has 215k+ miles. the speedo cable fried on me on the way down and I was told it was having intermittent problems before.

I've driven at least 2k miles since I bought it and the oil is just now looking used. Pulled the spark plugs yesterday and they were all clean and matching.

I'd like to get the rest of the truck in as good of shape ;)

the funky switch box on the side of my center console worked today, for a moment. I turned the truck off in the wendys parking lot and the red light lit up and it started beeping to inform me my headlights where on. Taking it off and cleaning up the connections is on the list.

also scored some cool old foglamps to go with the dealer foglamp switch,.

Wasn't my time to go man. A passenger would have been dead. Not wearing a seatbelt would have killed me. It was a wild fucking ride I hope to never experience again.

It kinda freaked everyone out with all the squished strawberries all over the place.

The photo IS scary. Especially from that angle. Maybe that's why all the news places said I was in serious condition. I've been going around correcting any false claims against me. I wasn't drunk, wasn't speeding, I was blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
