I doubt I have the knowledge and skill to do some of the spectacular builds that I've seen but I do enjoy to tinker and dream so here goes. I'll try to put up plenty of pictures, any comments or suggestions are welcome. 1979 Datsun 620, Manual, standard cab. This is exact condition the Datsun was in when I purchased it, complete with side step boards and a heavy duty chrome bumper off of a Dodge pickup maybe, dual exhaust with NO mufflers. Here are a few shots under the hood. Starts right up, idles great! The interior is pretty bad, especially the seat. Door panels aren't too bad and the headliner actually looks decent. I removed the seat and vinyl flooring and found a good bit of rust, as expected. I removed the side step board thingys and the rear bumper. Those items are for sale if anyone wants them, I'm sure nobody does unless they are over the age of 80. I've got to trim the pipes back. I plan on replacing the complete exhaust. That's it for now, I've got some more pictures that I need to upload. Currently working on replacing the brake master cylinder and booster. I haven't been able to drive it because of that so I don't know what else may be wrong with it. This will probably be a very slow project for me but hopefully with the help of Ratsun, I will stay motivated. If anyone has any floor pans in good condition I'd like to get them. If not I will probably end up trying to make my own which will be an adventure in itself. Take care till next time. 4 Quote Link to comment

A/C does not work. I actually have some new lens covers that I need to put on, have anything else to trade? TIGrant Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 17, 2013 First repair, brakes. Due to a bad leak I decided to replace both the master cylinder and power booster. I'd rather be safe than sorry with the brakes. Got the old stuff out, picked up the new stuff. Maybe put it in this weekend. My bench seat is shot! My intentions are to reupholster the seat myself, don't know if that is going to happen, or have a professional do it. My wife is pretty handy with a sewing machine so maybe with her help I can do it. Have the seatt stripped down to the frame and currently unstitching each piece of fabric so I will have a template to work with. 2 Quote Link to comment

About to bleed my brakes on my 79' Datsun 620 and broke off the bleeder screw in the rear drum brake. Feels like the other side will break when any real pressure is applied as well, even after I soaked all of the bleeder screws with penetrating oil. Anybody experience this? What would the best way be to extract the bleeder screw? I haven't been too successful extracting other bolts and screws out of this thing so far with my cheap extractor bit from Harbor Freight. Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully do it or should I drill it out? Or replace the whole drum setup or say screw it and go straight to the Wilwood discs in the rear? TIGrant Posted September 10, 2014 Author Report Share Posted September 10, 2014 After over a year, I've finally restarted my Datsun 620 project, althought it is no longer a "Savannah 620", it is now a "Gulfport 620". Like everything else in my life, I either loose interest or motivation or money or time or whatever. Having just moved back home to Mississippi I have decided to get back into it. I'm off to a pretty good start too, while towing the 620 from my grandmother's house to my house I lost a rear wheel and did some pretty bad damage to the lower, drivers side bed. This is after I pulled it out a good bit. I feel like such an idiot for doing this, I didn't check my lug nuts!!! I know, completely stupid...and I'm paying for it now. I'm going to try to pound this out the best I can and see how decent it looks. If anyone happens to have this piece in good condition, I will pay for it and for your time to cut it off of the truck. In the mean time, I'm trying to desmog the 620, and also just removed the A/C compressor and hoses. That A/C compressor was a royal pain getting out, does anyone know if there is a call for A/C components? I don't know if I should try to sell this stuff or just through it out, can't be good after this long. I'm also thinking about replacing the radiator while I'm at it since it is out of the truck. My biggest issue is getting this thing started again. I was starting it and letting it run every weekend without any problems until I needed it to run to load up on a car hauler. I believe I flooded it and then the battery went dead. After recharging the battery I could not get it started. I've checked the basics, spark, fuel but no luck. It has an electric fuel pump and that seems to be getting fuel to the carburetor but don't know if the mechanical fuel pump is working correctly. I ordered a Weber Carb. and hopefully I can figure this thing out soon, any help would be great. Well that is all, hopefully it won't be another year before I post again, if anyone lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with a 620 I'd love to chat to gain some knowledge. 1 Quote Link to comment

Removed my cowl, lots of dirt, pine needles and dead insects...oh yeah and surface rust. This is after I cleaned it up a bit. Not going to go too crazy, just treat the rust and maybe try to match the original color, don't know yet. Anyone know where I can find original "Datsun" color paint, my paint code is 307. I'm currently trying to desmog the engine compartment before I install the new Weber carburator. Can anyone point me to a thread that deals with desmogging a L20B and also trying to find an inspection plate. Do the ones sold on Ebay fit a 620? I've read some conflicting comments but it appears to be exactly the same to me. Here is my engine bay currently. Trying to remove the unnecessary stuff like A/C brackets and tensioner pulley brackets. Planning on replacing the original radiator with an aluminum one, don't know what brand yet, any suggestions? I really need to just focus on one thing and complete it, I'm constanly finding new "problems" to fix and at this rate I'll never get this thing on the road. Still looking for a good, drivers side door and tailgate backplate in good condition. 1 Quote Link to comment

Here are some photos of what they looked like. Here is what the driver side looked like after I soaked it in Evapo-Rust and scrubbed it will a wool pad. Looks much better! Soaked in WD-40 afterwards. Here are some shots of my soldering job, I'm not very good but I think it will hold. Notice the rest of the truck is becoming disassembled more and more.
