so, i have read the how to ei distributor and a 79 510 is a

matchbox 4 cyl ei distributor according to the list of cars

that came with them...

my question is on partsgeek.com, part#6658-07049655 is a 79 510

ei distributor, for only 97 dollars, but this seems too good of

a price to be the right one haha, could i some guys who have

a ei distributor verify this one will work, before i go blowing my

money on a distributor that wont work...

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

well this is a reman one, so i am sure its not broken,

i guess i just want clarification that this is the one

to do the swap, quick painless and easy...

i have never swapped a distributor before i came

from a realm of wiring in coil packs on fbs and

having stock coils on mx5s, so i am kinda

iffy on just buying a part, swapping it in and

hoping it works, its not that i havent put in

a distributor before, i just havent put one in

from one year model car to a different one,

but any beneficial swap/mod is my goal...

damn, the problem is i live in a po dunk town and our

wrecking yard has little to no jdm cars, hardly any hondas

even, finding one will be tricky then, could i use a 280zx

pedestal/timing plate with that distributor?

i have 2 l28e parts engines and a full 280zx car to

rip apart for the 510

watch this to get a jist of it. But most L motors ahe a specfi plate that goes with the distributor. I dont know wht they made a few different ones. People over time forget to grab the mating one and thus have this proplem.

this vid will give you a idea whats going on.

Im not a 6 cylinder expert on the parts somebody else might know

olddatsuns.com has a tech section on electronic ignitions you MIGHT want to read that

My first matchbox distributor I got was distributor only, no pedestal, no plate.

I used an old plate off a old dual point L-16 distributor, I cut the tab for the bolt that goes up through the plate into the distributor body off the plate, spaced it out 1/16 of an inch by putting a piece of welding rod in the cut gap, and welding it back together.

Here are two plates, the one I modified, and a stock L-16 plate.

Here they are on top of each other.

Like Hainz said, the rotor ended up between #2, and #3. So I put the distributor rotor pointing at #1, looked carefully at the orientation of the slot on the bottom of the distributor, dropped the oil pump, and indexed the oil pump drive to match where I wanted the distributor.

This page, about four posts down, details how I set up the distributor.

sorry i havent posted on this in a while im out of town working losing

my mind, i have been researching more, i found an 80 200sx, its the

4 plug type matchbox, from what i read i can use this distributor with

any z/zx pedestal, but i knida want to go a different route, i want to

find a remote type ei dizzy and do an hei module, and build a little

cool rack for it to bolt onto by the strut tower, hopefully the old dude

by my house with the old datsuns will have a remote type dizzy i can

buy, does anyone have a picture of one i can use as a reference?

all the threads i read are from 08 or 09 where they erased the

photobucket pictures and its sad cause i just got into the datsun

scene and have to go back in time to learn with no pictures :/

hypothetically speaking i want to wire in msd 6al down the road,

WHY???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

thry are overrated in my opinion and weakens the reliability. I know some people swear by them but you only have a 60hp motor and just putting in a EI is good enough.

MSD go to 1 spark after 3 k rpm anyways.

you said you wanted clean undet the hood. so putting a 1st gen EI then a MSD is just loading up the engine bay with more wires and more componets to break.

im sorry i just like the way the msd 40th ann box looks,

i want it in my car working, i have multiple transmarobird

friends that run them on their cars and i havent seen one

fail, i am just looking for answers sorry for being an ass haha

i was out of town in a crappy hotel for a week being miserable

and missing home, a guy on here may have a remote type

dizzy for sale, he said the part number is 22100-B9800

i cant seem to find it on google or a parts number search,

can anyone chime in on it?
