Here's a dumb/n00b question. I know I can drop my 720 with the torsion nut(I think that's right...I have the thread bookmarked.) but I also see drop spindles for the 720. Is there a distinct advantage of using the drop spindles over just cranking it down? I would only be dropping 2" probably at max. I'm not much on suspensions so I'm learning and trying to understand.

If your only gonna go 2" do the bars to save you some money. If you where gonna go any lower than 3 i would run spindles first then get your desired height out of that, because when you go past 3-4 even down to 5 inch without running a drop spindle you are pretty much maxing your stock shocks out which means you would have to get some shorter shocks.

I think I get it. So using drop spindles allows you to retain more suspension travel while cranking down the bars basically pre-compresses things or limits travel more. Sounds great to me! Thanks for the pro tip.

When you install the drop spindles, everything basically stays the same but it moves the wheel up two inches. The advantages of that, you maintain geometry with steering, and also your suspension. Trust me, when these things drop they ride different. Lowering the truck will improve handling. You can adjust your torsion bars and get a lower drop, also. You can also re-index your torsion bars to get more of a drop etc. You may have to cut the bump stops when you lower it. Watch the TC rods when you drop it, though. They will hit your steering link or whatever it is and that can be bad.... If you do drop it with the torsion bars you can also raise your shock towers, giving you some of your suspension back and not such a rough ride

 

You have an 84 720, the drop spindles are meant for hardbodies. i think 84-86 720s had the same brake/hub setup as the early hardbody. If not, you'd have to get a hardbody setup...

Lol I can't really drop mine till it gets new tires and running but it looks dropped and this is without a engine or transmission in the truck

These trucks really are pretty easy to drop but I'm debating 4x4 springs in the back or a drop block. Of course the back springs on the truck seem a little low anyway...

As you can see here there is no blocks.

you can crank on the torsion bars..there is a screw in the back and on told get 17mm wrench to hold it and use a socket and crank to the left (loosing ) the bars if you raise the truck up on jack stands it makes it easier b/c there is no added stress when you drop it, if you remove the bump stops and the shocked you can get a full 4" drop in the front, if you keep the bumpstops and shocks you might only get 2"
