racerdad
Help! The machine shop (to remain nameless) overbored my 2.8L block. I need a solid block that can be bored to 87mm. I am in Puyallup Wa. e-mail: badbeagle2@yahoo.com. Thanks Link to comment
datsunaholic
I have a generally complete L28 (longblock + manifolds and flywheel) I'll sell for $125. Was running, but had to be gone through. It's in Parkland, but you'd have to help extract it from my garage which isn't gonna be easy. Link to comment
racerdad
Not a problem helping to get it out! I do need to know it will take an 87mm bore (86mm stock). Link to comment
datsunaholic
Pretty sure it's never been bored. No way to know since it's assembled and I have very little inclination to take it apart, being that it's in the way as it is. Are some blocks incapable of a 1mm overbore? This one was sold to me as a 1978 engine. Prior owner said it burned a little oil though, but it's quite possible it was just running rich. The car it was in was rusted to pieces, and I bought it solely for the transmission, though I've used a few pieces off it (alternator, thermostat housing). It was complete end to end when I got it, all the way down to the air conditioner compressor and harness, both of which are still attached. I'd think that the machine shop owes you a block if they screwed up on their own account. Or a fix. They could sleeve the old one. Link to comment
racerdad
The machine shop will be paying me back!! Any idea on the miles??? I know it may be hard to tell. Were you told anything?? I will need the bottem end. Thanks, Darrel Link to comment
datsunaholic
I have no idea. Probably in the high 100s, under 200K. I was told how many, it was either 147,000 or 174,000 but I wasn't paying much attention as I was after the transmission. For $125 you get the whole thing. It'll cost more if I have to take stuff off. I have absolutely no use for 6-cyl L-series engine parts at this point, and I have 2 L28s taking up space in the garage. How far did the machine shop go? A number of 280Z folks claim you can go to 89mm with the L28 (using KA pistons), though I say that's pushing things. Link to comment
Bleach
3mm overbore is considered the maximum safe overbore. Link to comment
racerdad
They went to 87.75mm. I had measured the bore prior to taking in the block and even provided them with a new piston for refrence!!! I wanted to keep the bore at 87mm (for the piston match) and because the engine will see long hard upper rpm (8000-8200??). I have found a block and all it will cost me is a "RATSUN" sticker on my race car!! That I can do. With my luck I will nuke the engine first time out!! We shall see. Thanks Link to comment
Bleach
That sticker better be BIG. ;) Link to comment
