That looks really good! There are so many subtle details you had to change, that you would never know, unless you are really know 521 trucks.

At first, I thought it was the factory option, but the picture I have of a double cab 521 in my service manual is not a four door. It only has two.

Not only did you fabricate a cab, you had to fabricate, or cut down an extra set of doors. And then there is the issue of the frame behind the cab on a normal 521 starts to rise, to clear the rear axle.

If I am not mistaken, you even had to cut down the gas tank, because a stock 521 gas tank goes forward into what is now cab on your truck.

Please give detains on all the changes you made on your 4 door 521.

I have a 521 Datsun Pick-Up model 521 series chassis and body manual, and in the description of various models of 521 trucks, it has this picture,

521DubCab.jpg

and this line drawing.

521DubCabLine.jpg

skyc110's could be a later version of a 521 that Datsun made some changes on, after my manual was published.

I understand a lot of car companies tried to make pickups without a gap between the bed and cab, but most quickly discovered that frame flex on a "gapless" pickup body would put ripples in the sheetmetal of the body of the trucks.

I am waiting to hear more about this truck!

The photos in this post are of a "U" model.

The 4 door 521 in this thread has the box separate from the cab.

I got the idea from the author of this thread that the regular cab(2 door) was very rare over there.

I don't think he lives close to this truck, so when he seen my interest in this version, he decided to get more photos of it, I wish I had asked him to take some photos of the rear door hinges, me bad. :crying:

I reviewed my 521 service manual again, and from what I read, a Datsun 521 had either a 253 CM wheel base, or a 277 CM wheel base.

The two door double cab was built on the 253 CM wheelbase frame, and I think the four door double cab was built on the 277 CM frame.

The pictures under the back of the truck, under the tailgate, look pretty much the same as a "normal" short bed 521 common here in the USA, with the exception being bigger taillight assembly, and different side marker lights.

I am guessing the D / C 521 uses eight cab to frame mounts, our "normal" USA 521 trucks use six. My service manual does referenct the long wheelbase 521 truck frame, but only mentions a long bed 521, with the "normal" USA 521 cab.

This D / C 521 looks really good! Most 521 trucks I have seen have the front bumper pushed in a little in the center, and this makes the center of the front bumper a little high.

Oh I think you are right, it is a 1963 grille. With non-USA/non-Japan turn signal lenses.

I have, Datsun fanatics do it all the time. Never can tell what combos people will do.

You are totally correct, what I should have said was I had never heard of the factory putting a late grill(say 65) on an early truck like a 63 or 64 for that matter, even though the 64 has square holes in the fenders.

Them front turn lenses look strange though, but you never know what they sent to other countries.

Look at that guys, likely the only 620 factory four door I have ever seen, I know that we have a 620 4 door in the USA, but I always beleaved that it was a conversion from Mexico.

Isn't this a thing of beauty, what looks to be a totally stock U521 right down to the hubcaps.
