Question:

A while back I was delivering parts for a company named WorldPAC, World wide Parts and Accessories. It was an awesome gig minus driving my own daily driven Datsun 510 all day long for not stupendous reimbursement; so after working for a year there I gave it up to attend Canby 2012 for my first time with a dime. Anyways, driving to and from Canby and an additional several thousand miles, I want to adjust my valves because it is starting to sound a little sloppy. The last time it was done was about 12,000 miles ago and was done by a professional who said they would teach me but flaked and completed the job for $$. Long story short I want to know the tools I need, spare parts if any and how to breakdown... or If anyone local would like to show how anything is done in this thread I will gladly offer food/ beverage/ booze for video and picture / learning time.

When it comes to automobiles I really am more dumb than I am in person/ Steep learning curve.

valve adjustment is pretty simple. do them hot. you need a 14mm and 17mm wrench. 19mm socket to turn motor and feeler gauges. i want to do the my 510's valves too. If you have a place to do it i can come up and do them with you. probably not till next week tho.

Here's hoping 4 cans of Camo Green with be just enough to cover the top 3/4 of the car. Plastidip smoke for the lower 1/4 after it has been sprayed with Gunmetal Grey to get it a shade darker.

It looks like there are thin lines and 'bolts' painted in the design - will have to stencil it or maybe just paint pen it.

Looking forward to this. Wonder how it MIGHT affect DMV.

My suspension is rather fucked but it handles good to great so no huge complaint. Nice big steering wheel for my hands. Tires could use rotation/ balancing but I really want a different rim and tire.

Woe is me. Missing lots of screws and bolts which are harnessed in a magnetic cup on the interior roof. No headliner.

Recently the rear hanger of my exhaust[muffler] had broken apart and it would hit the car and be kinda loud inside and out especially climbing my hill in 2nd and then 1st. The hill is shit with potholes and loose road galore. I feel like I need new rear springs maybe bring it back to 'normal height' just to re-chop it down. But I don't honestly know where to look for springs. Anyways went to a local muffler shop to get the hanger welded back.. well now on start up and when the the clutch disengages and I am traveling slow to a stop it clank clank clanks and it is driving me MORE crazy than when the hanger was just broken. However climbing the hill has had no clanking of the exhaust/ muffler which is odd only because the engine and tranny are under constant duress. Try again somewhere else? it should just chill there in the rear.

Makes this dime look super poor. I am looking forward to smoothish roads on the coast. New drums and brakes in the rear is nice. I got a set of Bosch lights for my high beams but fitting them was weird. The driver side looks a shade duller same model. I paid 60 bucks. Highway robbery. It looks OK. Ehh.

Saturday I will be cleaning this bitch with no name. Run a front bumper ?maybe for san francisco? or keep it just valence. Can't wait to get my plastidip on!! C'mon UPS ground!

If they raised your exaust at all, the clanking is your half shaft/u-joints hitting the exaust ... that's why it goes away climbing a hill

happens to me all the time .. that's why I can't raise my rear coilovers anymore .... the noise goes away if I go lower ..

.... jack the car up and see where it's hitting .... I bet the passenger wheel hangs lower

Fellow Santa Rosa guys here. We should have a meet up. I think there are at least 3 guys on Ratsun from here, and a few more from around Sonoma County. You say that you might need some rear springs? Shoot me a PM, I've got a set of rear lowering springs laying around if you're interested.

Also, if you need a hand adjusting valves, I've done it a few times on l-series and wouldn't mind giving some guidance. Let me know.

I got the driver side rear half shaft out and cleaned up and put back in with new u joints. Took me a bit to get it all figured out but it wasn't difficult.

Blew a wheel bearing in Bodega Bay on a fun run, and got a 200 dollar tow home. Upon removal the outside bearing collar was fused to the spindle and the bearings ?? gone. Having a hard time tracking down spindle nuts that FIT. I put the old one on there.. it is missing a tooth but there is a new cotter pin so I'm hoping it will be ok. Probably not. Still have to redo the other bearings on the drivers side. Bought harbor freights' race kit which works pretty darn well.

Started to Plasti dip it but then I ran out of camo green and then I ran out of gunmetal gray and red. :(

What it looked like on the fun run. The reed is propping the rear window open. I like how it looks for some reason.

The gray (grey?) looks really great! The red either needs more coats or it is too thick. And I need to get some more green black and white for the shark mouths.

As of today the rest of the car sans doors and prior painted areas is black.
