Steroid
Excellent and welcome ! ! Your truck has side windwing windows, uncommon in the United States. All US trucks have large one piece side windows. One unique thing is the placement of the radio antenna. We have speculated on this subject before but most US trucks have them on the right side. Also a smooth tailgate, no DATSUN letters stamped from the factory? What side of the truck is Your gas tank on? I do not see the filler door on either side. Almost any question You might ever have can be answered on Ratsun ! ! Mike Quote Link to comment
Aibast
I haven't noticed the side window difference. I see what you mean. I love these triangular small ventilation windows. Every older car in here I've seen has these things. When you need a positive airpressure in the cab, like when driving on gravel roads for the dust not getting in just flip them around into airscoops and no more dust inside. The gas tank gap is on the passanger side ( black round thing) and had been changed with the rear panels. If you look the rear panels are changed to something else, The lower line doesn't continue on the rear panel. And I've noticed I don't have a filler door. http://static3.album...233477_Mxds.jpg best seen in this picture. The tailgate is smooth but with a number plate mounts and light. I think I'll move these under the tailgate. As the number is now not visible when I would hall stuff around with tailgate lowered. And that would get me a ticket in here. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Cleaned out the ventilation system and resealed everything needed. Old foam sealt where flaky and falling apart. Resoldered the low speed spring or that you call it. Now all the things move and work and there is no more pine needles in the radiator. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Last evening I made new seatbelt attachment points. Now they are connected via 5mm thick L shape metal bracket. Also repaired the rust holes in the bottom of the cab. No pics, as it was 21:00 when we finished and not enough light for mobilephones camera (left my digiSLR home). Quote Link to comment
sergent
What a dash! Must be less uv in your part of the world! nice truck! Quote Link to comment
Aibast
I think is mostly less sun in here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonia This is the climate in here. I had a cracked dash on my Volvo 740, but that wasn't realy as bad as you guys got there. http://en.wikipedia....mate_of_Estonia Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Does anyone have any sugestions how to finish of the dash? I could cover it in vinul also, but don't know how it would look. I sonehow want to tie everything together in the interior. Will be using 5. series BMW window winders, Still not setteled on the door handels in the inside. well, here is the pic of finished doorpanels with front underdash panels covered in black vinul. and here is a pic of a little devil who is always wanting to dig trough the vinul and made my work a bit harder. I've been looking and thinking sketching different colorschemes for the car until found these pictures and was hooked. I' think the pickup will get the same type theme as this car. sergent
I dont think I would mess with your dash to much. Maybe just make a cover for it that lays over the top. That will add the black color you want plus protect it from the sun. use little pieces of velcro or such to keep it still. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
I'll first give the dash a proper cleanup. And sun/cracking isn't an issue in here. I need to hook up fuses, relays and tripmeter somewhere in/on the dash. Treated the interior metal with hollow section wax with ML. Should work great against rust and water. Now need to wait until that tries and give the interior couple of coats of paint. Started removing the bed so I can fix the gastank and look over brake tubes, gas lines, handbrake cables, rear suspention. + need to make sure the bed can hold some weight. Need to add aditional hooks for securing cargo. Like the spearewheel, gascanisters, toolbox and waterproof boxes (military ammo boxes) for all the other things. Quote Link to comment
H5WAGON
Love your tow rig, I have a 850 Turbo.....looks like your having fun. I just picked up a 79..510 for some rally fun myself. I will be following this. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Volvo 850 with a 5 cilinder turbo is a perfect family car. And when dad wants to go a bit faster he can ;) The heaviest treiler I've towed with my Volvo was 2,1 tons. That was an interesting drive. i hope I can get my datsun done by february. Hmm, just found I have 2 barrel weber just sitting in my garage shelf. Hmm, how would a J15 work with that thing? It was in a box with some other carbs. Bit dusti, needs a proper cleanup. It's from Ford Escort 1,3L I think. Going to clean it up and get some type numbers. Would it give any performance gains? It has automatic choke via coolant, would make a life a bit easyer Quote Link to comment
Aibast
Good morning to me :) This is the view I got from my apartment window, my car is the left Volvo. We got our first snow of the winter 2012/2013. -1C outside. Damn I need to get Datsun running fast, lots of snowdrifting fun is on my mind. Quote Link to comment
Aibast
small update. Got the first coat of paint on the insides of the car. removed the bed and the gastank. Cleaned the tank, was suprides to find only 2 tiny holes, other then that it was all ok. Need just a proper cleaning and new paint. The gaslines where rusted and bad. Going to but ned copper gaslines in. Now its rust removing chemicals + ML wax for aditional rust protection + now a repaintable stonechip protection paint as it was the only thing that sticks to the wax. Now I'll mask everything up and paint the top black paint layer. Got to get a new exhaust made and new interior carpets or something. Pressure washed the rear frame. Got to think about new paint for that. If I can get the interior done I can but in the dash and get the car running again. Then can get it in the garage. We have @ moment in there 1956 Moskvich 402. That thing is a whole lot more work. It's one of the reasond I got the Datsun. As we will never get the grandfathercar ready this or next year. Also Datsun is a good car to try different things on. Aibast
finished masking up the inside for the paint. In adition sealed the front panel corners on both sides that leaked water when it rained. Hope to get painting inside done by this weekend, pics when ready. Quote Link to comment

Aibast
help neede. Where to find new e-brake cables? Will 80-86 Nissan Pickup (720) e-brake cables work? Quote Link to comment

Aibast
did some work on the car today. The insides got the first layer of primer on it. Also removed the rear leafspring rear part to change out the pushings. These where still factori originals and metal clamp is badly worn out, not to mention the pushings. Need to fab a new clamp and get new bushins. The shocks where both totaly useles metal tubes. Also need new ones there. Here are some pics. E-brake cable package. 80-86 720 longcab ones. Almost fit, need to make some adjustments to cable mounting points, but thats easy. Driver side sleave is to long and passanger side needs to be tweaked a little. Here is how the car sits now You can see the rear brake drums on the frame, almost in perfect condition minus little rust on the outside. On the right hand side is our moskvich. Also on the frame shifter boot and new dirt mats for the car. Removed the rear lights from the bed and we are making new mounting frame for the lights on to the cars frame itself. Rear lights are actualy from KAMAZ truck. It will me surrounded on 3 sided with 6mm steel so give them some protection as you'll never know where you can slide or land with the rear end. Still having tought about the bed. If we have time, we'll make new custom flatbed on the frame. @ moment still useing the original. PS. Now you also can see the realy shiti paintjob. As the guy who did it didn't even bother to reamoving the side indicators doors, bed and so on. But it's a rally car, so who cares :D Quote Link to comment
