Lopez916
is power steering possible for 1970 521 ? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You'll have to get rid of the one piece steering column and box. A 720 column isn't a drop in, but it can be made to work... plus it is Nissan. They have a tiny U joint and a collapsible spline which is handy in an accident, and easily clamps to the input of the p/s box. I used a p/s box from a late '70s early '80s 280z car (most are rack and pinion) and the sector shaft spline fit the 620 pitman arm perfectly. You'll have to weld up something so the box can be mounted. If you find the proper 280z box, grab the p/s pump too. It is mounted to the fuel pump studs and and has bracing and an adjuster for belt tension. If it fits an L28 it should fit any L series. I've heard that the crank pulley may not line up but this can be adjusted out on the mount. You will have to install an electric fuel pump now. Another option is a 720 p/s pump. It also mounts to the pump studs on the head. In both cases collect the two hard lines and hoses from the pump to the box and the return line. Heres a late '70s 280z p/s box like I used:http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/280zPSbox.jpg[/img]"] Here's a p/s question for a 620 which is very similar to the 521. http://forum.ratsun.net/showthread.php?t=4451 Quote Link to comment
