SCDP The early views from Truckin' Magazine

I decided to post these early views of three So. Cal Datsun Pickup 620s. Most of You already know about that club, which was based out of Fontana, California from about 1973 through the late 70s. This first truck was owned by Jeff Croteau. This is from Truckin' Magazine December 1975. I apologize for these scans, I tried three times and they turned out like this each time:

This next truck is from the October 1976 issue. It was named Screaming Yellow Zonker and owned by Gary Contreras:

This truck, named Orange Plus, was owned by Ron Mangus. This feature is from the March 1977 issue:

I agree that these are not the best views in the world, but they are a very rare glimpse at what was popular almost 40 years ago.

Farmer,

Do You have that pushbar also? I own one but it needs repair. Basically it is just now a "museum piece" to use as reference. My old buddy, Dave Bednarczyk, had that pushbar on His truck as well as the "steps" and side "handles" (see them on Jeff's truck around the side vent?). I have a catalog that lists all of those accessories in My collection. It would be cool to see a newer build sporting those accessories just like Jeff's truck. Actually I have been debating weather or not to paint one of those side panel 70s style accents one day on one of My Fontana styled truck. Very retro!!!

Always notice that You can distinguish a Fontana styled truck from other vintage trucks due to the lack of front fender flares. Other than Bill Lizotte's flamed truck, there was only maybe one or two other SCDP trucks that ran front fender flares. Fontana styled trucks were trying to "copy" the NHRA funny car look for the most part and front fender flares just didn't fit that look. There were very few Fontana trucks with wide front tires and if You look at changes over the years, tire size was reduced. This was due in part to the truck being purchased from the dealer with 7" rims all around and changed out after joining SCDP. Take for example Screeming Yellow Zonker. The view in Truckin' Magazine shows a stock Toyo or Bridgestone tire mounted on a 6" rim but Gary changed over to a much smaller front tire when He added the Western Cyclone rims.

Steriod, I dont have the front push bar. Ive always wanted one though. My bed rails a little different too.

Your pic show the bed rail has angled up riser and mine are straight out. Heres the difference

There was a pushbar on a local datsun 620 in a JY - just like the one in the picture.
