Getting tired of the Neeewbie thread so I'm gonna do the rest of my updates here. This is where I was....

http://community.rat...wbie-to-ratsun/

Here is where I am.

Parking light fuse blew last week. Melted my fuse box. :crying:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted my "240z issues..." and got some feedback. I love Ratsun!! Can't afford the upgrade right now, but definitely a must!

Here's what I ended up doing:

Took it out.
Posted Image

Damn, it's messed up.
Posted Image

Treasure baaaath!!
Posted Image

Busted out my brush kit and Zip Zippy
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Vinegar is an amazing liquid...
Posted Image

So...I came across this stuff in my stocking last year.
Posted Image

Put it on Zip Zippy cause the grip fell off over time. Wanted to see how tough it was in an auto environment. It impressed the shit out of me. Six months now and it's only dirty. Not a hint of failure yet  .
Posted Image

Supposed to withstand heat up to 180*C  . Let's see what happens...
Posted Image

A bit of dielectric grease
Posted Image

Since it's apart. Why not clean up?
Posted Image

Posted Image

All back together with brand new fuses. Don't think I'm gonna keep the cover on anymore, though.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Wanted to see how hot it would get, so I left the lights on for about 30 minutes checking it every few. This is the hottest it got.

Nice man! Innovation rocks.

What did you bathe it in?

Id wipe that grease off.

its nonconductive and used as a sealant for the rubber portions of electrical connectors.

Was not aware of that. Consider it done!

It appears that way. The fuse reads 250v on one side.

Forgot to mention that I put a 15A instead of a 20A for the parking lights....we'll see how that goes  .

highly recommend putting the correct amp fuses in all of them.
there designed to keep all of your electrical components safe from frying,
putting to big a fuse in may cause damage before the fuse blows.

I know Skib. That's why I'm trying a smaller fuse.

^This, I had some on top of all my fuse connectors while I didn't have a fuse box cover, and it caused my brake lights to stop working eventually. cleaned out the fuse box and reset all the fuses and everything works fine now.

I would not use dielectric grease in between any connections!

I like the new classifieds better.

Had a little time to clean up my loogie yesterday. Decided to tackle my engine bay work light.

Posted Image

Hasn't worked since I got the car but never did anything but change the bulb. Let's see if we have power at the light.
Everyone who want to diagnose electrical should have one of these power probes...

Posted Image

Lights up red to show power. Green for ground. We have power and it grounds through the body. Problem is internal.

Posted Image

Inside. The wires are pinched by the ground. Bent the tabs gently.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Nut on the back and it comes right out...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Had to be careful taking the switch apart. It's spring loaded and has a tiny black seat that I can see going....poing! :w00t:

Posted Image

Cozy hammock for the spring.

Wait. Delectric grease isn't conductive so it doesn't conduct between contacts.
If it's not for connections, that's why you find it in some oem connectors? Namely Chevy.. it's on most anything Chevy I've worked on that's later model. Put 'em in the weatherpak connectors...
The same thing you're supposed to put on bulb contacts to avoid them corroding... or seizing in a socket so you can't get 'em off?

Skib, you've officially confused me o.O

I wouldn't use it in a fuse box though... but I've used it on pretty much everything else and never had a problem in like 10 years since I did it. Not supposed to goop it on like KY on a Wednesday night, but...

EDIT: Works wonders on spark plug connectors & boots. Keeps water out. Keeps the connectors from corroding on the plug terminals.. comes with every set of Accel wires, so you don't end up yanking the terminal off the plug wire...

So. I filled my tank all the way a few weeks ago, something I haven't done yet cause I knew I had some vapor hoses seeping. Well, it was a lot worse than I though. I lost a half a gallon of gas before I left the station and my buddy said he could smell it pretty bad when he was following me. If he could smell it, imagine how I felt....

This was something I needed to tackle before driving to Canby...let's do it.
