reynolds_brad
Hi, everyone. Long time. Im about to finally drop my KA24DE 91-94 s13 type into my 72 510 and Im looking for some knoledge on what header I should get so as not to have to do a massive amount of cutting and fabing to get it to fit. Anyone have any experiance with this. I did some searching and saw a tread pointing to a Megan header for an s14 swap but didnt see any specific info on a s13. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Quote Link to comment
xzile609
I'm not sure if this will info will help you. It seems this is a very open thing to deal with when I was doing my KA swap into my 510 I could not find any specific info either to make an easy purchase and make an easy fit. Any header will technically work but there will be fabricating that has to be done. It will make it easier if you decide to not use the EGR tubing most headers will have the EGR bung on them and need to be welded up / plugged. Also you will want to use a header that the O2 sensor will have clearance away from the steering box. Most of the headers seem to have the O2 bung right at the Steering box. I have seen allot of ka swaps using the stock header plugging the O2 bung and putting the O2 sensor in the EGR hole. My O2 sensor would not thread into the EGR hole so I didn't go that route. I used a ebay steel header that has the O2 bung on one of the runners way higher than the steering box. Welded up the EGR tube, I had to cut of most of the header off near the steering box even the flange. Took it to the exhaust shop and they completed the run from the header to the back of the car. The Taterhead
Don't know if this will help but If you do get a header & need a bung hole plugged (no homo) I used a freeze plug the same size as the threads in the hole by just tapping it in with a hammer before putting it in my hardbody p/u i had. Boaty
I'll see if I can dig up the info post that I had. I too am looking to buy a header and ditch the stock exhaust manifold the next time I work on anything major with the engine, or whenever I get my crossmember exhaust hole enlarged - whichever comes first. I've heard that the Megan Racing header works great, but you have to have the stock O2 sensor bung welded up to clear the steering box. You would then use an O2 sensor in the stock EGR location on the #4 runner. They also look pretty. Quote Link to comment
Trophy24
I had also heard the Megan Racing header works. My question is weather to use a header with the S13 style downpipe (2 pipes that merge into 1) or the S14 which is just 1 pipe at the header connection. Has anyone used the S14 down pipe from a 240SX? Quote Link to comment
dakotahchore
Still wondering if anyone found some headers that fit... would make getting a new exhause run several hundred dollars cheaper if I can get part of it premade. Quote Link to comment
SupDoc
I am very interested in this subject, as well. Maybe the KA guys who have already completed the swap will chime in, and drop some knowledge. Quote Link to comment
Uber Deaf One
I've tried Megan Racing's 4-1 header and OBX's longtube 4-2-1 header. The main difference between the two is the 4-2-1 has equal length exhaust runners, the 4-1 does not. We weren't happy with the 4-1... power delivery was very flat... boring. Probably worse than a stock exhaust manifold power-wise. The 4-2-1 needs to be cut and modified to clear the floorboard and angled more towards the transmission tunnel. I went to a well known good exhaust shop and they had no problem getting the header to fit perfectly. Going from the 4-1 to 4-2-1 there was noticeably more power all around, and the sound completely changed... added some character to it. We're very happy with the performance of this header.. worth the $$. I would run a stock manifold before the 4-1 header... I can't find a pic of the Megan Racing 4-1 installed in my KA 510, but this is the OBX 4-2-1. Quote Link to comment
SupDoc
Looks nice. Were your runner lengths still the same after cutting and modifying? Probaby doesn't matter if you're happy with the performance. Quote Link to comment
Uber Deaf One
Yes they are still equal length. Quote Link to comment
71goonka
is that an S13 or S14 manifold? im looking at this same one, alos found a customer shop made one looks to be quality. http://www.ebay.com/itm/91-94-NISSAN-240SX-S13-STAINLESS-STEEL-EXHAUST-HEADER-4-2-1-design-KA24DE-/281118713434?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A240SX&hash=item4173fb265a&vxp=mtr Quote Link to comment
freekwonder
Not sure of the manufacture, but this is the header I used. I got it from the guy I bought the engine from. I didn't have to do any cutting on it to get it to fit. Definitely a S14 header, luckily I had a bung to plug the second O2 sensor, put the O2 sensor in the first whole and welded a quarter into the EGR port and used a hammer to massage the header to fit around the steering box and linkage. nustad
So if I'm reading this correctly an S14 4-2-1 header will work on an S13 swap in a 510? Quote Link to comment
Nuclear Water Boy
So if I'm reading this correctly an S14 4-2-1 header will work on an S13 swap in a 510? Why not it is after all still a KA24DE engine. But after getting it reshaped to fit I'd get it jet hot coated. Quote Link to comment
