justin 620
Hey, I'm wondering what motor is supposed to be in a stock 84? I found a truck for a good deal and want the engine for an LZ build. Yes, I did check the tag under the hood, and it says it's a z22s, but I just want to verify before I go any further... Thank you! Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
If the underhood tag says Z22, it's not an '84. Z22 was used 81-early '83. Z24 was used most 83-86. An '84 would either be a Z24, a Z20 (MPG model), or SD25 (Diesel). Quote Link to comment
Skulptr
i came across 4 84's in the yard today with a z22 in them. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The last Z22 was used in October '82. From November '82 and on there were Z24s, Z20s and SD25s. So those trucks are identified incorrectly. Look on the driver's door tag for the build date. The new model year starts in August. For example an August '83 would be an '84 model year. justin 620
But even if it were a mis-identified '83, the z22 was only in them until '82 tho? Quote Link to comment
poopypants720
Nov 82... Which means 3 months into the 83 model year... from aug-nov they were z22 from nov on z24.... I'd go with the z22 for an lz build anyways n keep the same height block and have less issues with the timing chain. Quote Link to comment
justin 620
Sweet, so it should be the z22? Because that'sthe motor I want to use. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
i came across 4 84's in the yard today with a z22 in them. And I've had a '74 with an L20B, a '76 and a '79 with an L18, and my '81 510 Wagon has a Z24 in it. By now it could have anything. Need to look at the engine to be sure what it really is, the tag only says what it ORIGINALLY had. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
yeah, that ^ Look between the exhaust manifolds under the #2 exhaust spark plug for the engine size. It's stamped on the block just below the head. The raised square area on the left side. Quote Link to comment
poor-mans-720
yea, best way is to check for your self with the motor. Just take some Brake-kleen and a small wire brush. no better way, then finding out for sure. Quote Link to comment
