a truck or suv for another driver to follow (chase) me in when I take the Dattos on long trips. (read: Canby) carrys tools and supplies in case I break down and is set up to tow in case something happens we can fix roadside.

but being used for datsuns it shouldn't need to be that big....

grinding is the best way I can describe it. when I have the clutch down (so the plate and trans are disengaged) it grinds. mostly when its clutch in, trans in gear but it has happened a couple times in neutral.

been researching "grinding" sounds and it sounds like mine is likely to be the TOB or pilot bushing. seeing as those are the only 2 things I didnt change when I did the swap and the TOB that went in wasn't looking the best (had some surface rust on it, but it was all I had that was the right size and I needed something asap) so I'm fairly confident that the noise will go away when I swap those out.

Luckily I have access to a full shop with lifts now. Hopefully I'll be able to get the driveshaft off with the better tools we have at school. Its currently rusted to my diff. :/

also, on a side note, I'll be adding a new camshaft and mechanical lifter setup in the coming months. pretty excited about that :D

Yeah, it could also be the bushing. but if the TOB isnt the cause i'm still changing it because i wanted to in the first place, I just didn't have time. before, now i do, so I'll swap that aswell. I'll post oics of the rusty old one when I get it out. I don't think anyone would oppose the replacement of said TOB....

Been working on the TOB and pilot bushing....it's taking a lot longer than I had planned because the KA/NAPZ tranny combo doesn't fit very well in the 510 haha. well it fits fine, it's just not easily serviceable. I don't have enough space to get the trans out with the engine in place so I'm currently pulling the front apart and I'm goin to slide the engine forwards to where the radiator was.

on the bright side I get to work on my car in a real shop with lifts and all snap-on tools  :D

Well I ended up having to pull the motor. I've been having a hard time getting wrench time in the school shop but its coming along and when I do get in there its an awesome shop haha. at any rate, here's quick status update because I like oics

and I found the source of my "ticking" which wasn't a tick at all....it was actually small booms lol

my exhaust gaskets blew in 3 different places and oddly none of the leaks/blowouts were by the snapped stud in my head. aka the header was only held on by 7 bolts not 8 and the area around the missing one was one of the few places it DIDNT blow lol

and his home from the last couple of weeks and the next couple of weeks (temp lost my license, not allowed to drive until the 1st)

ENGINES BACK IN! after 4-5 weeks or so of not hearing the growl of my KA/flowmaster combo I fired Junior back up today. Started right up after sitting that whole time =D hoorah for Nissan dependability. Now I just gotta refill the tranny and plug my fan back in and I can drive it this weekend! super stoked to drive again after a month of riding the bus lol

for $800...was a diesel...SD22 stock, only needed a clutch but sold before I could get ahold of the owner....\been keeping it a secret because I wanted it but figured I'd share it now haha wanted to go for the low and slow like this

only a diesel haha...

in 510 land, as of today he's all stitched up and in one piece. Still needs more gear oil and coolant to drive but the fan's back in.

So my oil cap must have loosened itself or someone in my engine performance class is a retard and was playing with my car but either way, it ended with a mess in my engine bay and O.D.D. dropping off a oil cap for me to use for the next coupla weeks till I can get my old one from the bay area. This is why I love forums like ratsun and ratsuners in general :D

Here are some oics of the oily playground I got to clean up today haha. It's hard to see but the valve cover was pretty messy, basically the whole driver side of the engine bay is oily and the best I could do was wipe off as much as I could.

haven't posted in a while, only thing to report is the addition of a stereo tucked out of sight under my passenger seat (switch panel is where the radio was) with 2 6x9's in the rear deck for now. hopefully I'll be adding some front speakers at some point. But for now here's some new oics of Jr.

thanks! the speaker grilles are ell cheapo plastic ones. the badge on them says SSL, stands for Sound Storm Laboratories...its a cheapo chinese brand. haven't actually hooked em up yet so not sure how they work but they aren't valuable.

As for lower I wish, but I'm trying to turn my focus and what little money I have towards the Z. Gonna try and get him up and running late this month or next month. I'm only doing what I have to on the 510 (theoretically....) so its gonna get an upgraded fuel delivery system, a defroster and its old falken's back and then its back to the Z, FINALLY

also I'll be in Marin with the 510 late december-late january. if the weather isnt horrendous we could get a couple cars together for some photos at the bunkers at the headlands. Dattos look so good in front of industrial/cement shit lol

Link to comment

oh ok. good deal.

right on. that's how i feel about my 510. I want to get the truck dialed in so i can just focus on the dime. haha. I'm really close.

Yea man hit us up. I'm always down for a photo shoot. Agreed, Datsuns look sweet with some industrial shit in the background.

Link to comment

sweet i'm thinkin sometime early/mid january.

as for the car, got my falkens on the MKII's today so I have good tires again! still gotta balance them but they're not bad, no noticeable vibration so far.

heres a pic of my old tires after pulling them off the car. this is how they came off the car, you can see the camber wear on the back 2 from my stock rear suspension...just thought it was interesting proof that the stock suspension really does need slotting, and I'm not even that low!

and while I had the wheels off I thought I'd see what my car would look like slammed lol

been workin on the car again lately. took it off the road to beef up the fuel delivery system. -6 AN lines...mmmmmm :P not done yet but here's some other little stuff that we've been doing

sealed truck lid

29E53BB2-A5F2-4B43-94F0-95FB240CE310-503

painted the taillight panel to look like the jdm trim piece. I think it came out good considering that panel is nowhere close to straight haha

finally put on my license plate frame so it can't be removed easily
