What's it worth? 1971 510 4door 13b non-turbo

Recommended Posts

like the title says. i'm looking at trading a very complete turn key 2002 GSXR for a 4-door in "okay" shape. its got a questionably vacant interior. missing all the oem gauges and the dash is kind of fucked up! but the car seems straight, its a 13b carb motor non-turbo, 5speed, open diff :poop: but that wouldnt be hard to swap a LSD in. its original paint was some bright taxi-yellow color, then resprayed by some crap purple color (nothing OEM very tasteless) then the current owner rattle can satin blacked the whole car. it looks okay for a spray paint but i'm thinking of doing some custom paint to it myself. the bike im thinking to trade is around $5500-6000 value... lots and lots of stuff going with the bike including one piece un-used racing suite with boots gloves helmet, 2 mens jackets (leather and mesh) 2 womens jackets (same) stands, extra body pannels... is this a good trade?

sorry if this is in the wrong section most forums im part of have a "how much is my stuff worth?" kind of section and i'm just trying to appraise this car before i either screw myself or get a good deal! thanks in advance.

I'm going to move this to General Discussion so people are free to reply any way they wish. You did ask what's it worth....

From your description a reasonably straight 510 with crap rattle can spray paint? (not a good selling point) Crappy dash without gauges in a stripped interior. No mention about steering or any suspension/brake up grades so I assume none. Does it drive? because without driving how can you know the motor works, does it charge?, do the brakes work? does it over heat? does it restart when warm (or cold), in fact without driving it there are so many unknowns that this should be treated as a non running shell. This will cost a fortune to collect all the missing interior parts and get on the road.

If the body is good maybe $1,000. (could be worth more if there was more info)

With just the info you supplied it doesn't sound even close to a $5500 car. Even with a very straight and clean body. Edit: if your in California its a different story, I'm in Washington and would not trade a $5500 bike for any dime in primer.

yea thats kind of how i felt when i saw it. i have a general taste for oldschool rides i grew up on e21 and e30 bimmers, but this is my first classic japanese venture and its hard just by peeking whats good and what isnt without some expertise. socal has a very "different" way of pricing useless and valuable stuff.

13b freshly rebuilt and street ported

full adjustable coilovers with camber plates (unknown brand, never asked)

matching sparco seats

racing wheel

custom tach and afr gauges

original wheels

carpet and seats and door panels all seemed to be there, not stripped. just missing dash pad gauges and door speakers from what i could see. its definitely more than a $1000 value due to the motor and trans + labor alone, but idk if im willing to lose a beautiful bike to it

That's not necessarily true. The motor + tranny could be worth 1k out of the car, but putting a rotary in a dime doesn't necessarily boost it's price. Especially carbed and non-turbo.

Not everyone wants to BRAAAAPPP around town! Lolz. Just my .02

Does it run? Can you drive it around? This would add some value.

What about brakes? Were they upgraded as well? "original wheels" would indicate not.

racing wheel

custom tach and afr gauges ... well the originals would be better IMHO

Hang onto that bike and something much better will come along

hah yea it runs beautifully and drives like a new car. it idles like a street port which would scare many. the current owner has a rear disc brake upgrade unisntalled at the moment. but i see what you're getting at. i'm not in any big hurry im just evaluating the pros/cons. i'm not jumping on this car, but im curious to know what many of you would pay for a car like this.

Good looking motor swap but dented in every panel. Not a $5500 car. I'll sell you a yellow four door with some rocker rust and front frame rail rust (completely repairable) for $350. You just have to trailer it back from Spokane. (We decided not to bother fixing that car I was giving to Regy. We're going to put the motor in his good 510 instead.) I'll give you a decent L16 and 4 speed tranny to go with it. Already gutted except dash.

appreciate the offer, but im not terribly craving a 510 just yet hah, this is just ther first one i came across that fell in the price range of my bike with some cool features. glad to know they are relatively cheap to come by though... orange county sandiego and LA are just not the prime locations to shop for classic cars lol
