A look inside the Nissan audible warning system

Recommended Posts

So in 82 or so Datsun/Nissan added an audible warning system to some models like the 810 Maxima, the 280zx and the Z31 300zx.

instead of dings you get "Left door is open," "Right door is open," "Parking brake is on," "Fuel level is low," "Keys in the ignition," and "Lights are on".

This was some top of the line shit back then haha and seeing as it was before the age of digital recordings...

what did Nissan do?

They created a mini phonograph!

it uses a 3 inch white plastic record cut with six grooves, one for each command.

With a stylus that drops in the correct groove for each command.

I took mine apart to snap some pics of the inner workings  for teh lulz

Right away I think... "can you re-program it to say other things?"

"Oh Skib! Faster! Faster!" ..... fifth gear above 80.

"I'm sooooo wet!" .................... when wipers turned on

"More, more more" ................ (Rebel Yell) Lateral G force exceeds .75

"Like a Bausssss" ................ any sudden rear wheel spin in second gear.

"For the lultz" ............................ any missed shift, tach exceeds 5K

"Fuck, I need a drink"............... low fuel

Skib, where are they on the car?

boredom at its finest. Thats something i would do, no doubt. Make it say VTEC just kicked in yo. It would probably break after than little shenanigan though. I was thinking to day about replacing the annoying alarm clock buzzer seatbelt warning with the more pleasant early 90's "door dinger" lol. that audible warning system would be pretty cool to put in as well. lol.

lol first thing I thought of too.

youd have to completely re-engineer the system in digital to reprogram it.

lulz unless you know how to make one off 3 inch records

on the 280ZX there mounted on the pass side rear strut tower, remove the spare tire cover to see it.

on maximas I think there under the dash, you can see from the first video its a different size than the 280ZX one I show.

Wonder what it would take to wire one up on a Datto!

"tire has fallen off" for the lulz.

plan is to wire it into my 510 with an on/off switch just so I can flip it on for some nostalgia fun  but turn it off if it gets annoying.

hmmm wiki says

"1984-1986 Z31 300ZX GL and GLL models featured a voice warning system, called "Bitchin' Betty" "

doesn't say anything about any other years or models

wiki is half right, it also came in 82-83 280zx GL models and Im not sure what trim package they came with for the maxima tho
