phatdave
Found a 620 in a wrecking yard with a tach . I need a photo of a stock tach to make kinda sure it's a factory tachometer. He said I could have it for 40.00 dd:fu: Quote Link to comment

phatdave
How do you pull the tach from the cluster while still in the dash? dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
How do you pull the tach from the cluster while still in the dash? dd:fu: ya dont. pull the cluster. itos not hard to do. also if its in a yard could ya look at the fuse box? i need one thats NOT melted BADLY! Quote Link to comment
phatdave
You bet I will. It was missing the fuse cover . I looked for that. How much should I pay them for the fuse holder? dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
i can pick up fuseboxes for $10 or less here at our local you pull yard but finding a 620 here is not easy. at least not where i am anyway. oh and if itsnot melted i need the plugs too with pigtails about 3 inches back. you could always "free 99" it. but that wouldn't be right. datzenmike
Don't forget to unscrew the cig lighter to get the inst. cluster out. Quote Link to comment
yello620
The tach only has three screws holding it onto the back of the dash insert, IF you can get to them. But i agree with the others that it is easier to just pull the main panel and then get the tach. Jason Quote Link to comment
yello620
Is this tach coming out of a white truck? Saw the yard prepping a truck to go to the yard the other day--not giving a yard name. Dont want to let someone beat you to it. jason Quote Link to comment
phatdave
No...you are about 60 miles away. I saw it while picking up a 45,000 lb load of dirt.:D dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
phatdave
[/img] Yeah 40 dollars. It didn't get there to check for the fuse block. Another driver stopped in and picked the tach up for me. :D Is it easier to put the tach in by pulling out the whole instrument cluster? dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
RB_Shaggs
Is it easier to put the tach in by pulling out the whole instrument cluster? Yes sir way easier.. at least from my experience :D Quote Link to comment
phatdave
How do I pull it then? I don't want to start busting stuff. Play by play if somebody would be so kind. dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
phatdave
is there wiring for the stock tach already in the dash? dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
yello620
There should not be any stock wiring for that tach in your 73 620. You are starting from scratch. Pulling the cluster is easy. one screw at the top of each guage hole. Radio knobs might need undone, heater knobs need removed(small phillips from the bottom), Cigarette lighter needs removed. And sometimes two pain in the ass screw that are under the dash going into the bottom of the bezel. OHH, and the speedometer cable(have fun with that). I am sure i forgot something, but that will get you started and others please add the things i might have forgot. Jason Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Is this wired like other Datsun tachometers? It goes into the coil positive wire only (not the negative, like most aftermarket tachs). Quote Link to comment
phatdave
That was easy. So now that I have no wiring what do I do? Cut up the old wiring? dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
look at later model wireing daigrams and see whow it was run. that way you can wire it in that way. otherwise run new wireing. thats what i would do anyway. Quote Link to comment
datsun dreamer
Dave, Here are some pictures of the wiring:) Hope it helps....................... Quote Link to comment

phatdave
I can't bring myself to cut the harness. I'm going to unbolt and save it. Then hard wire direct to the lugs on the Tach. dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
yello620
Dave, you could also cut the harness plug off of a truck at the junkyard to use for hardwiring it in and then be able to unplug it like factory. I like your plan to not cut the factory harness, just never works out good. How many times have you seen someone complaining about the previous owners wiring jobs. Jason Quote Link to comment
phatdave
Great idea. Does anybody have a parts 620 they would clip the plug and harness out of and sell/give to me? Nissan factory wired them for the Tach/Clock after, what, 76? dd:fu: Quote Link to comment
Jester
Why not just get the harness out of the truck it came from? Quote Link to comment
