Correct amount to cut of or correct length of bracket.

no one mentioned throw out bearing collars

causing issues if the dogleg was pulled from l20b

clutch fork as well as how much to lower the mount cause it hits the top of trans tunnel. Also shifter needed to be heated to be bent. And for that the little bushing needs to be taken off with a high chance of breaking so buy a new one at dealer before hand.

there are so many little things.

All to take into consideration

Sorry i was just pissed took me three days for the swap as well as taking the engine out 3 times

I have shortened several of the 521 transmounts over the years and each one was a litlle different in length.  I attribute the length difference to old rubber mounts.  They have varied from removing 1 7/8" to 2 1/16".  This is why when I drew the white lines on the transmount and posted it I did not give a dimension.  It is easy enough to measure and get it correct to fit your application.

Here is a series of pictures I have collected over the years of various transmount mods people have done.

This is as much spoon feeding I will do.  If you cannot measure you should not attempt this type mod, not to mention welding.

The transmission mount that I offer for the KA swap will work with the longer 5-speed.

The holes need to be slotted about 1/2" forward and it works for the shorter 5-speed. I am still waiting on pictures of the mount being used with the dogleg. This will be incorporated into the design for future runs.

I agree the longer 71B speed is the better way to go. The FS5W63A is just the least work for a 5 speed.

FS5E63A... also known as the dogleg. It's harder to find as it was only used on the first gen 200sx and an option on one other car. It's also just adequate strength wise. If you find one it will likely need rebuilding.

FS5W71B... you will need to shorten your 521 driveshaft about 5.5" and use a modified transmission mount but the 71B was designed for a 6 cylinder Z or 810/Maxima car (strong enough for trucks too) so plenty strong for a 4 cylinder engine. They are much more available and depending on application have three gear and numerous over drive ratio sets...

getting close to mating our rebuilt L20 to our donated dogleg, have a pretty clear picture of the mods required to instal it into our 521. With the transfer of the 4 speed slip yoke to the dog leg tail shaft it is said that it is not secured with the nut but instead it is sealed via frost plug. how then is the slip yoke secured? will it have travel with the rear suspension like the travel between the 2 drive lines? Also, any suggestions on removal of this attachment that came on the dogleg.

The slip yoke is not secured, it slips a little back and forth, thus its name.

If you keep using the 521 two piece driveline, you put the slip yoke in until it bottoms out, pull it out a bit, and make the front half of the drive line to fit that length.

plan on using the original 2 piece drive line so the slip yoke should find its own original position. Are you saying that the slip yoke has movability on the original four speed even though its bolted on? Because it is bolted in place on the 4 speed I assumed it was in a fixed position and the driveline give was all in the slip joint between the 2 drive shafts. Since I haven't disassembled the slip yokes yet maybe it will be more clear once I do this. Thanks, DanielC.

The dogleg is an ok transmission for a car but only in a truck if used like a car for transportation. It's ... adequate.

The 71B 4 and 5 speeds are six cylinder rated. The 71Bs are also more easily found.

Nice versatile design on the tranny bracket ]2eDeYe. Looks like a good option especially since the dog leg may not stand the test of time.

Thanks.

I hope it works for the next series of engine swaps I plan to work on. :)
