Still buttoning this up.  I bought some L brackets to mount my seat belt receivers next to the trans tunnel, but they didn't work.  No big, I made some out of some angle channel that was at the shop.  These are exceedingly overkill at 1/4" thick, but it was the only stuff in the length I needed.

All cleaned up and ready to paint.

After hitting a couple wrecking yards and having no luck finding a Pathfinder with a mirror in it, I decided to try to clean up my spray painted 510 mirror.

Like everything else, this was spray painted for days...

I use this cleaner/degreaser that somehow magically removes paint and leaves the plastic unharmed.  The stuff is amazing and costs about $8.00 a gallon.

After three or four days in the cleaner:

I had some vintage white paint that I used to repair quite a bit of paint on my old Sunny, and some pale yellow paint left over from my old yellow 1200 Coupe.  I added some yellow to the white and kinda / sorta got it in a similar shade as my headliner.  I assumed that was somewhat the original color based on what it looked like after the gray paint was removed.  I have never really noticed a 510 mirror before :)

Anyway, I masked everything but the stem and painted that.  It's metal, so the paint requires a different prep than the plastic parts.  Tomorrow, I'll reverse the process and paint the plastic parts..

If it comes out lousy, I can keep looking for another mirror..

You'd think so, but all this little stuff that needs work takes up some time.  I can't be putting crapped out parts back on the wagon..

I also bought some used JDM heater defrost hoses from Japan today. They look good, but we'll see when they show up..

This should be done by now right.

Never thought about looking on ebay

Do the Pathfinder mirrors come in other colors besides gray?  I could go for black or a white-ish one.  I really don't want to paint one, but I could if I have to.

I got some sun visor clips from the Z store and tried to paint those the same white as the mirror.  It was a fail.  Fortunately, the paint was easily stripped, and I have that abs plastic paint I can redo them in black again..

These silly details are always the monkey wrench in the gears..

Well, I got serious today and remembered that Pick Your Part now has a semi-accurate inventory of cars on their lots.  I was just over the bridge from Mr Big's refinery and found this one out of an Infinity QX4.  The mounting cover was liberrated from a 720 pickup.

And I must say, downtown Wilmington, CA is very lovely this time of year..

Not sure why. They have everything on there.   ^_^

My wife called me to come check out the TV last night.  She was watching "The Brave" and there was a 4-door Datsun 510 Sedan with two guys crusing around (allegedly) in Iran.  The car was shown prominently for about 20 minutes including interior shots as they were driving around.  Pretty cool..

More buttoning up.  This thing is dangerously close to being ready for shakedown drives..

Formerly tan and grey Pathfinder mirror painted and installed.

Really lucked out and found some used JDM heater tubes in Japan.  They arrived and are in excellent condition.

Got them installed, and I'm FINALLY done with this heater.

Did the final bleed on the brakes for a nice firm pedal,

and installed the driver's seat and seat belts so it can be driven..

Not much left to do in San Diego now.

It seems like a very foreign concept to me at this point, too.

I still have a re-do or two, but it should be home by the first of the year.  I still need to an upholsterer to finish it, but I can drive it with nakid floors and no back seat for the time being :)

Wait, you're gonna drive something you've been working on?
