Still moving ahead with assembly..

I'm liking the painted-to-match channels that hold the top of the door cards in.  I really need to find some Datsun door lock ferrules.  The Z places want $25.00 for two of them.  :poop: :poop:

I have to dig up the non-spray painted door handles and door pulls I bought years ago.  I have them in my shed somewhere..

I powder coated all mine in gloss black.

I had one of those that was drilled by someone.  It appears I have two right-side pieces for the back doors.  It's pretty minor, but if I find a replacement, I'll change it out.  Good eye there, Tankster

Also Mark from this picture it seems to stop short at the back side. Do you have them on the right side?

I think the hardware rack at O'Reilys has them...

I did buy something similar from one of the parts stores, and they were just a bit too big.  I might see if I can grab a few decent ones at the junkyard.  I suspect all Datsuns use the same ones.  I also need a pathfinder mirror, too..

Ferrules....sound like a $20.00 word and I have a $5.00 education. Is it the clip that attaches the rod to the lock cylinder?  May be able to get a part # that works.

Piccy maybe?

Nissan calls the door lock grommets.  I was a Chevrolet parts man ages ago, and they call them ferrules.   It's the little round plastic piece that goes over the door lock handle that comes through the top of the door.

Something like this..

And checking through this crap..

I have a few spares, but only ONE channel piece for the inside rear quarters.  Looks like I have to cut an extension piece off of one, then weld it to make a piece for the other side.  Not the ideal solution, but at least I have the pieces to fab one up.

I'm interested in it.  I assume it's a left side?  My driver's is the right side.  I measured my bolt holes and have just assumed I have the right side piece.  I need to physically take it down there and check it on the car.  (I haven't really looked or measured the left side)  Either way, drilling a hole or two is better than welding a section onto one.

I'll send you a pm.   Thanks!

I have a rear driver side spare.

Thanks Kelly!  I can check the Nissan guys that sell online.

I also just found the missing channel pieces.  I keep all of the trim, drip rail, other moldings, etc on top of my paint cabinet.  The quarter channel had fallen off and was behind the cabinet.

My usual routine is to turn Craigslist upside down to find a replacement, only to find the lost ones after I get the newer piece...

The "A4600" should be the newest part #.  May or may not still be available through Nissan.

Found 'em and ordered 'em.  The parts were $0.85 each vs $12.50 from the aftermarket thieves...

So the parts were about $4, the shipping was about $8 :)

Thanks again.  Gotta love Ratsun!

I just got an email stating that the place I ordered them from refunded my $12.00 to my paypal account.  No explanation, just a refund.  I assume the "thingies" are probably NLA.

Oh well.  It was certainly worth a shot :)

In my book those are called "those little round thingys on the door what the door lock knob goes through". Glad you were able to find them.

Spent a couple of days locating and refurbshing door hardware.

As usual, I have 3 door lock knobs and three pull handles.

I think the two door pulls on the right are from a 1200.  Based on the grey spray paint, these were probably on my back doors.  I'm on the lookout for one more like the three on the left if anyone has one...

And I have a question for you 510 experts..

Do the solid metal door handles just go on the rear doors, or were they ever used on the front doors, too?

Just the rears, and only on wagons. The '68 model had them on all 4, but a slightly different shape. And MUCH cooler grab handles.

Those wagon rears also use a special "gasket" between the handle and door panel not used on anything else.

Thanks John.  I figured you'd chime in if I asked.

Being it's my first 510, it's nice you have you guys help me sort this stuff out!

Not sure if I'll get the right "gasket" or not, but I have a few things that I can make work.

Somewhere I have a bag full of NOS ones. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks!  I got down to San Diego this week and discovered I had everything BUT the rear handles.  I got home the next day, and there they were still hanging from the painting hooks in my garage...

  • 2 weeks later...

Been moving along assembling the car and doing some things I needed to make time for.  I don't have a lot of pics because it's mostly interior stuff, and it's DARK in the shop. (and the inside of the car)

Made a lid for my battery box.  It's hinged so when me or my fat-ass friends use the back seat, no shorts across the terminals.

Also, added an adjustable electric fan controller and put the manual override switch in the un-used spot on the radio bezel.  With the working map light, cigarette lighter, and the fan switch, there's an abundance of wiring in that area.  I really hope that bezel doesn't have to come off again anytime soon...

I'm very pleased with the interior so far.  It looked so bad with the gray everything.  I'll have to get some better pics when the car is in better light...
