Building wheels

Recommended Posts

If you could build your own wheels what would they look like?

I have a friend down the road that makes wheels for drag cars. I was down talking with him today and he said if I make my own cwnters he will weld them in the rings he has in stock. 15X8 or 15X6. So I'm thinking about some 15X8 rear and 15X6 front for my wagon.

Depends on offset. Do you know what the end result would be?

visually there would be a big difference between your front and rear wheel if you staggered that much.

Me personally I'd go 8" all around :D

Jun I can set the center where I want it. I was kinda thinking hot rod style fat rear and skinny front.

Back in the '60s I worked with a guy who had a green fastback 390 (Steve McQueen) Mustang. He had G70s on the front and H70s on the back. The effect was that the slightly narrower fronts complemented the rears and made them look even wider than they were. You don't need wide ones on the front making it harder to steer around town. But you could run the same size fronts slightly in and the rears slightly out and get the same effect.

Ratsun Wheels ... . with the Rat/wrenches in polished aluminum and everything else flat black ...... .... . we could glue them on like Orange County Choppers

That's a great idea. They get away with it why can't I.

I will say from experience that having to deal with different width wheels front/back sucks. Keep them both the same size. It will save you a crap-ton of hassle and frustration finding the right sidewall/width combo's to make things look right.

For you're wagon, with no flares, a 15x8 is pretty fat. Be sure it will fit before you make them.

With that said, I would probably try to do some vintage JDM-esque wheels. Don't bother making anything that resembles something that was ever sold here in any quantity. Not worth the effort.

Four spoke design with the wrenches going behind the rat head to the edge of the rim, with the rat head embossed onto the hub round.
