Farmer Joe
okie dokie.. got the bottom end done. made my own ring compressor, cuz im a broke ass... the truck always turns into a work bench when the engine is out.. i need a valve spring compressor so i can do the valve guide seals. gonna try and get one later today. more to come. 4 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
more progess... sort of.. anyways, ive got the head torn down now.. i didnt want to pay for a valve compressor, so i made one. i saw a picture of one like this, so i figured it wouldnt be hard to toss one together real quick. its got a couple fixtures that bolt to the head on the front and back. i used a piece of dom tubing and cut it up like a valve compressor thingy. its got a couple notches for the wrench and whatnot. i just used the jack handle, and that 1in wrench. so im gonna take the head to the hot car wash and superclean the shit out of it. hopefully i can get it put back together tomorrow and put it back on the bottom end. more to come. 4 Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Don't forget to lap those valves. Nice compression jig. 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
yeah, the valves are fucking gross.. they need to be hit with the wire wheel real bad on the combustion chamber side. i though the same thing about lapping them when i pulled the exhaust valves. only a few more hours at work today, and ill get back to it. more to come... 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
alright. got some more work done yesterday. lets see, i took the head to the wash, and cleaned it up. i didnt know about the washers that go under the valve springs, so i lost one down the drain at the wash. ive got a hook up for another one tho, so its all good. got some lapping compound and the tool to get that done. i cleaned the build up off the valves with a new razor and some scotch brite pad. i chucked the valves up one by one in the hand drill to make it easier to clean em. works damn good. the exhaust valves have that shit thats literally baked on the bottom side that i couldnt get off, but im not too worried about it. the rest of the valve is good to go. i got 2 exhaust valves lapped... you can kinda see if here. the 2 on the right. after.. before.. they are cleaning up okay... i hope this thing runs good when im done with all this... lol more to come. 3 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Looks like there was a bit of pitting on those exhaust seats. It should run great if you get them all lapped up like that, the effort is worth it :) 2 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
yeah, the exhaust seats were pretty pitted up. im hoping i dont find anymore that are really bad... i cant really afford to have this head gone through by a shop yet. soooo, we'll see. 2 Quote Link to comment
