"Datsunami" 510 SR23DET S14 Build.... SR-TITTY-THREE!

Recommended Posts

I am planning a rebuild of my SR20DET motor set over this winter and want to document it.

I am currently amassing parts needed for the re-build (and some just because) Not going too crazy but I do want a solid runner.

A little history on this car..... First off, I got beat up on the price when I first bought this car in 2008. Being a slight noob, I did not pay attention to the things I should have. But I've learned a massive amount in the 4 time that I've owned it. This car was a mess when I first got it. To give you an example, the r160 subi LSD diff blew 1 day after I got it. Sheared every ring gear bolt head right off. The fab for the swap was about the only thing done right on this car. It's been a California Car all it’s life and has little to no rust! The previous owner in L.A. cut so many corners and did some stupid back yard shit to it but she is my baby now and she's gonna get treated right. I rescued her from a hack and it will just take some time to go through it all.

Ok, Frst of all, I have to clear some space to do the engine build and swap.

Started by Cleaning and organizing my garage..... (sorry for the crappy cell pics)

Included a small Work Bench

I still have some organizing and cleaning to do but got the shelves up. I hope there will be enough room to do the

build with my 510 in the garage. I only have half of the garage available. It will be tight but it's do-able...

I needed these real bad. Old QA1's were getting hashed and needed a rebuild.

Got these for a great deal so I'll have the others re-built at my leisure...

Black Anodized custom valved QA1 Carerra Coilovers with Hyperco springs and poly bushings built by TSR.

New Ron Davis/TSR Radiator with twin SPAL fans and custom bracketry. NICE!

A very important aspect of my build; the right radiator to keep everything cool.

That is the first 510 you stepped into as a "noob"? Damn I did it ALL wrong. I bought my first one 15 years ago in Sacramento for 500 bucks. The headgasket blew on the way home. My buddy showed up with his mothers Chevy Caprice and *pushed* my 510 home 20 miles on the highway! LOL......

That is a really nice 510!

Thanks man, believe me, it has taken ALLOT to get it where it is today.

Practically the only thing not gone through on this thing is the motor. (but that's about to change)

One of the biggest WTF's done to this car by the previous owner was he did a Maxima Rear Brake setup. But instead of making brackets for the calipers, he

welded the calipers to the control arms.... Ya, I know, a huge WTF right!

Not to mention he lied and totally misrepresented the car. Fuck, he even lied about the rear seat belts. He said they were stuffed under the rear seat.

I didn't check because it had a roll bar and was a hassle to get the rear sear out to check. Besides, who the fuck lies about something as little as that????

Again, Thanks allot for the compliments

I like the color.

Thanks. Me too, I love it. When I repaint, I am going to paint it the same color.

I am planning on painting the bay the same color too.

Going to paint the bottom bay rails and the front and back of the grill area all satin or flat black

and then the rest of the bay the same blue color.

Gonna look NICE!
