Project Bush:: Buzzing_Relay_Under_Dash

I thought this was the throw bearing nearing it's end.

My passenger said he thought it was coming from under the dash.

Had a look, and yes the relay near the invisible fuel "Black Box"

was abuzz! Disconnected relay and all seems well(and quiet).

Will this come back to bite me later??

If not, I'll rip it outta there continuing my quest to

un-engineer my Nissy.

I'll assume this is a safety clutch switch to force you to

depress the clutch for idiots who try to start a vehicle without

checking neutral?? If so, it never did work as such.

Not too familiar with 720 wiring, but.... Shall we assume from your assumption that the noise was only on clutch application? That be the case, it would indeed be the clutch start switch~ BUT if your truck still starts then somebody either already bypassed it or it's for something else that was wired into that circuit. Have you CAREFULLY tried to start it in gear to see what happens?

I thought that relay was for the fuel pump

Mine used to do that too, it would buzz at random, sometimes longer than others. but only at start up. Its there for a reason, but if you are running a weber carb and all your lights/fuel pump etc are working. Might not hurt anything

Good point~ Tim. Allow me to expound on that from an electrically generic point of view.

If it was indeed random it could've been activated if negative-side switched by an intermittent ground (not good)~ and if positive-side switched by an intermittent hot short (really not good). I think in the interest of not getting stranded from melting essential parts at the very least I'd be tracing the hot side back to source voltage for peace of mind. Or, it could be the little bugger just wore out- burned points, broken coil winding, etc. Like Izzo said~ it was put there for a reason. We might not agree with that reason (i.e.- emmissions, etc.), but still prudent to know why it was there...

Peace~

Scott

Squealing was upon clutch release and was constant . . .

Stopped only when clutch pedal pressed.

I thought the throw-out was about to be thrown out.

Bit of a relief actually.

Aaah~ now that sounds like a hotside short! Check the clutch switch for voltage going thru when it shouldn't be....
