Anyone know of a shorter shock that will work in a 521?

That is the shortest shock your going to find, The pinto shock might be shorter extended, but when compressed they are the same. I was in baxters when the guy(fryenretards) brought out 3 differant shocks, nothing was shorter than the 521/620 shock compressed. Pumpkin210 was talking about having the shock modified by rethreading the shaft to make it mount shorter, but I also got the idea that compression throw(less travel) was lost also. You also have the option of raising the shock tower mount, and modifing the lower arm by Z braketing it. I you change to ball joints from the 720 using after market control arms, you can also buy a 720 type drop spindle.

klotz said he remembered using a shock from a 64 mustang for the rear.

when I was asked, it was about the back and I refered to my NL.....but it just dawned on me that I think the upper mounts are different between the NL and the 521.

OP didn't state front or rear. You can get drop shocks in the mini-truckin' mags, but I didn't like the price. I built extra room in when I Z'd my front LCAs.

Most shock absorber companies sell generic fit shocks. All you need to know is the extended length, collapsed length, upper and lower mounting style and size.

If you're doing any custom work to a truck and expect a bolt on shock to work, you're going to be disappointed. Like Mklotz said, you're going to need to modify the shock mounts to fit a proper length shock.

Yes, QA1 sells generic fit shocks.

Ss300 pro shocks 7.26 collapsed, but pricey. 75.00 each. Toxics r discontinued. Pro have cross bar and smaller bolt size collar. Swap them out, fit good. Just have to jack up wheel/spindle to get top nut on.

Got pics?  And how much better/worse than the KYBs everyone runs?

Wait soo are the 720 drop spindles able to be bolted on a 521 with no problem's?

No, they are totally different front end setups, the 521 has kingpins and the 720 has balljoints, these front ends are not compatible with each other.

But you can buy aftermarket arms for the 521 that make it possible to change over to a 720 balljoint type front end, then you can use the 720 drop spindles they sell on ebay, but all this is not cheap, you will have to buy all new brakes/rotors, find early 720 hubs and buy the drop spindles, then you will have to modify the tie rods to get you front end back to where it can be aligned, plus you will need to change over to a dual reservoir/circuit master brake system.
