datsunfreak
Got the seat all scrubbed up and ready, then set it out in the sun to heat up a little... And the after shot... Started to put the side trim back on and noticed the clip that holds the front on was broken. Used Tim's trusty soldering iron to "weld" it back together. Since they are made of nylon, it's easy to weld it back together. And as a side note, some aerosol paint can lids are made of nylon too. I cut one of those up to use as "welding rod". It's hideous, but strong, and no one will ever see it in the car... It was a bit dingy so it and the adjuster handle cover were repainted before install... Also cleaned and repainted the harness holders, screwed those in, then bolted it into the car... Hopefully for the last time... ^_^ Now to see how to make the passenger side fit. It has slightly different mounting brackets, so hopefully some of this translates to that... 9 Link to comment

datsunfreak
That looks tight right there. Yeah, any seat made for a wide American ass is not an easy fit in a 1200... ^_^ 3 Link to comment
datsunfreak
Got some rear seat ash trays from Kelmo! And some cool metal wall art for the garage... B) 2 Link to comment
KELMO
We are hoping to do some more of those in the future. Possibly some 510, the 510 " Datsun script and maybe a Datsun emblem......possibly. 2 Link to comment
datsunfreak
Ash trays were blue, but not the "correct" blue, so a scrub up and some paint later... And installed... So yet again spending time on things that are cool that no one will ever see, or use... While I'm dyeing all the interior to one consistent blue, I figured the front door panels ought to be next. So out they came, and one scrub up and paint later... While I had those out, I thought it was a good time to address something about the car (and all 1200s) that has been bothering me. Why didn't they make the door panels go all the way to the bottom of the door? Why leave a 4" wide strip of body color at the bottom of each door? It's annoying when everything inside the car is black or blue and you have this glaring white stripe on each door, so... Took a scotch-brite to the paint and then threw some tape on it... Couple of thin coats of satin black to keep the white from bleeding through... Then a few coats of the appropriate blue... Once the panels are back on, I think this will really tie the room together... I decided not to reinstall them today because I want to give the door panels plenty of cure time before I mask them to repaint the silver stripe like I did on the rear panels. Then I will polish up all the chrome bits before reinstall... Also waffling on the door pulls currently. They do poke me a bit in the side, so not sure if they will stay or go. If they stay, I will probably dye them blue as well. If they go, perhaps something will go in their place like possibly just a leather strap? 3 Link to comment

datsunfreak
That is a great idea. The painted door or the leather strap? ^_^ If door, I agree. I think this would be a good idea for 510s and 620s too... 2 Link to comment
datsunfreak
Got busy with some other stuff but had time to finish the passenger side panel... Not flawless, but I think it looks pretty good... Got it reinstalled but ran out of time to polish the chrome bits before putting those back on, so more pics soon... 2 Link to comment

dimlight65
You must be loaded the way you use blue tape  Yeah, the $100.00 bills didn't have the coverage so he went with just tape. 4 Link to comment

datsunfreak
Didn't notice just how saggy my left side vinyl is... ^_^ Can still see a bit of white on the rear edge, but much improved in my opinion... The vinyl is not so saggy on the right side, thanks to the car being LHD for the first 38 years of it's life... Went ahead and left the door pull off because I'm still not sure what I want to do with those, but leather strap is looking likely, if I can make it look "tasteful"... 3 Link to comment

datsunfreak
Any idea where to get rear quarter window seals? Not offhand, but I'm sure it's from somewhere in Australia or Japan... ^_^ Mine are pretty wasted, so I will have to find out eventually... 2 Link to comment
KELMO
I have found some cut to fit stuff that seems to work. I will poke around the shop and see if I can find it. 2 Link to comment

Yeah, I've seen some on McMaster-Carr that looks doable. Just need to measure the stock seals. But any other leads are appreciated. 1 Link to comment
Morrisun
This is what I and others have used for 1200 coupe quarter panel windows, not cheap but very good quality: R60-6001-650 Peterbuilt cab door seal Boyd Corp. These can be found online or at your local Peterbuilt Dealers parts department. NOTE: ONE door seal will do both window openings. 2 Link to comment

KELMO
This is what I found yesterday. The label on the bag. I THINK I got it at JC Whitney. It slides over the pinch weld sort of like the door opening welts and has a tubular seal that meets the frame of the 1/4 window. 1 Link to comment

Morrisun
I forgot to mention that the Peterbuilt door seal (1) also works for sedan quarter panel windows! Link to comment
datsunfreak
You should do a write up and make a thread for this information in the 1200 section, that way everyone sees it. 1 Link to comment
