twotoedbandit
This may be a retarded question, but would running vacuum directly from the distributor to carb cause any timing issues. ie. going from a ported vacuum system to a direct line? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
should be port on carb to hook up to the distributor. DO not hook up dizzy to intake manifold!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
twotoedbandit
That would be a bad idea!! I'm just wondering if deleting the other vacuum lines and then running the line direct from distributor to carb would effect timing at all? Would deleting the other vacuum lines attached and running it directly cause an increase in vacuum that would increase vacuum advance? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The Nissan engineers designed it to work this way... and it does. Why mess with it? Vacuum advance comes from a port on the side of the Hitachi carburetor. The opening inside is just above the throttle plate so at idle when the plate is closed there is no vacuum signal to the distributor. As you step on the gas the throttle plate lifts above the port an it is exposed to intake vacuum and the distributor advances. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, it will increase the performance. Direct from the carburetor port to the distributor is optimum. The factory put restrictions, delays vales and/or cutoffs in the line (depending on year and model) to help control emissions. Quote Link to comment
twotoedbandit
Okay, so i do understand it correctly. Follow up question. I seem to have a small amount of vacuum coming from the carb port at idle. Is this normal, I would assume there shouldn't be any vacuum at all. I'll try to getcs picture of the port this afternoon, there are three on the side of my carb. This is the furthest left and the highest port. This should be correct, right? Quote Link to comment
king bee66
its the bottom port on the valve cover side Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Also the carb must be at proper idle with the throttle plate closed. Yes, there should not be any vacuum signal at idle Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
It's almost always the lowest port. The high one is for EGR and/or the charcoal canister. Quote Link to comment
twotoedbandit
Allright. Think I have it hooked up to the wrong port. I'll play with it tonight when I get home and see what happens. Thanks guys! Quote Link to comment
