The504
I would like to know if a Nissan SR20DET 240sx would bolt right in a 1974 datsun 620 p/u 2wd 4spd? If not, would it involve heavy modification or minor modification for the motor mounts? Or what fuel injection engine do you guys recommend that will fit in there with little to no modifications? Thanks Quote Link to comment

nismo dr
But seriously, nothing fuel injected really "fits with little or no modifications" If you are trying to install an engine that your 620 was never offered with, there is going to be modification - and a lot of it Quote Link to comment

Thanks no. heavy modifications, and definitely not limited to the engine mounts. There are no EFI engines that will fit "with little or no modifications". If there were everyone would have one. The '74 4spd. won't bolt to any EFI motors so plan on swapping in a motor with 5 speed. (the 4 speed won't stand up to the abuse anyway) At the least you will need to modify the tranny mount, relocate the shifter hole and shorten the driveshaft. You will need a high pressure fuel pump for the newer EFI systems. A larger capacity radiator. The 620 uses a rear sump oil pan to allow clearance for the front mounted steering system... most car motors are front sump oil pan with steering to the rear of the oil pan. So... what ever motor you choose you will be buying or making a custom oil pan. The closest engine for this is the KA24E or DE from a D-21 truck. It already has the rear sump pan. This is just for starters, haven't even discussed the EFI electrical wiring. Besides... this is way beyond "with little or no modifications". Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Yeah the late '90s D-21 KA24DE (with 5 speed) is a fairly well documented swap. There's no getting around modifications I'm afraid. The only motor that drops right in "with no modifications" onto your 4 speed is the later L20B. Quote Link to comment
