Hi, i recently acquired a lovely datsun blue bird 1.8GL.

I needed some tune up and some machs fucked it up it had a nikki carb but i later had to change it because they fucked it.

The new carb is smaller and has a manual chock. i also replaced the coil and condenser. One day the car just developed a flat point...as in it would die as a certain RPM if i accelerate slowly. it picks up soon as i pass the point it dies.

I suspect it is my coil. i would like to know what coil should be installed.

The one on now is red and is hitachi.

Please assist on whether thats the possible problem or what could be the issue.

i love this car and would like for it to run at its best its a classic.

Regards

feys

Based off of some quick searching it would look like a L18.

It is also possible to have a Z18 according to wiki...

Check the plate in the engine bay. Also check the casting number on the block. L motors have it on the right side near the rear, Im not sure where the Z has it.

Here is the location on a Lseries:

Does your car have points distributor??????

Since you said you have a condensor I think yes.

Point coils are higher resisitance about 1.4 to 1.6 ohms or so. They will use a ballast resisitor( a white ceramic block).

If you thing you have a wrong coil coil the points will wear out really fast(example you put a EI coil and not ballast) more or less it will start popping cause spark is arching under distributor cap)

also maybe ck your fuel filter could be very dirty. take it apart if real dirty then ck the carb(most time the idle jet will plug up. But if yo can idle then the idle jet is fine.

you can also ohm out the coil to see if its good. I think it's less than 2 ohms (external resistor) between neg. and pos., take out the coil and ohm it out. Also what about your spark plugs, wires and rotor are they good...is dwell set okay?
