My "new" car ha ha

DYNOBUSTER

Recommended Posts

so first post ever

I have bought a Bluebird, I saw it in the local classifieds but it was a load of trouble to get in contact with the seller because no phone number only email and it took a while for them to get back to me but of course they did so I drove up with the trailer from Adelaide the 300 kilometers to Port Augusta to look at it. the photos on the net were crap so it was really the first time I could work out how good (bad) it was

underneath it is clean as and the engine bay looked neat and tidy and the only rust in the actual body was in the rear quarter panels

the bolt on panels doors not bad but front guards are not really very good at all but reusable

floors and sills look just about rust free just a few tiny spots that won't need any work other than to give it a lick of paint to stop it going any further, so that's good

car was bought new from Port Augusta dealer by a woman and never left the country town except once for a trip to town

all paint is factory never had any work done no filler or repainted bits so what you see is what you get... nothing worse than a car made of rust with a smear of filler holding it together

anyway sorry took these pics in the dark and my camera is junk but you can see what it's like fully dealer serviced with books and 52076 miles 3 speed column shift and no it hasn't gone round more than once full set of 4 factory keys (2 have use 2 are brand new)

it has the owners manual and the tool kit and everything

nice people too.. they knew that if they just left it lying around the yard it was going to rust away to nothing so thought it was better to sell it to someone with an interest then to wait until it was only good for the crusher

so what do you guys think? where can you get some tail light lenses??

thanks

I was just bouncing it up and down and the shocks still work that's amazing

got it running the engine is running sweet...chucked some platinum plugs left over from my R33 and fired first go after pumping up the fuel with the little lever on the side of the fuel pump

brakes and clutch go to the floor though, so they need attention and the exhaust is full of holes

what do you think one of these would go like with an SR20det ;)

it's a '64 model

just the Australian spec cars have orange turn signals and the orange turn signal and the red brake light is in two pieces

cleaned out the carb and it's running even better

I went down to the local brake guys. they have been in business about 50 years and we had a hunt around in their NOS stuff and I found both the NABCO brake and clutch master cylinders band new old stock and got a kit for the clutch slave for $108  brilliant

now onto the wheel cylinders all of them are NLA so I'm told but they can put a stainless steel sleeve in them and are "supposed" to last forever for $35 each with the rubber bits supplied and fitted...probably have to go that way

and they can do shoe lining bonded on new too

this thing is so cheap its amazing I had to get some R32 GTR discs that I run on my Cefiro and they cost more than what I have spent already on the whole car:blink:

As a temporary "kludge" you might want to try some "tail light repair tape" on that lens. It is transparent red, clear and yellow tape sold to bridge gaps in broken lenses until you can get replacements. You might be able to cut to fit the inner surface and have tail lights that work well enough to pass inspection. Then starts the real hunt for NOS or good enough replacements. Good luck, the car looks like a hidden gem!

thanks guys

the PO used some lens dye to make it orange a few times before... the old lady that owned it smashed the right hand one crashing it into a gate and her son in law replaced it with one from the wreckers and he bought a pair off the wrecker and I have the left hand taillight base and the red circular lens but nothing else as spares

and it doesn't need to pass a roadworthy inspection to register it in my state.. the way it works here is you can drive a car in however crappy condition you want but the police will pull you over and defect the car and you can't drive it anymore until it's fixed, when that happens though it'll cost you a packet and you have to book in for inspections with waiting lists that go on for months and its a PITA fixing everything because they are super picky
