Javin's 78 Datsun Pickup

This is the restart of my build thread. I am pretty sure it hates me.

The truck as it sits now

My mom bought me this truck when I was 17 (2001?) as my first vehicle. I did some research on cars and fell in love with the lines of the 620. This one popped up in the classifieds and I had to have it. Truck got me through high school with only minor issues. However when it was time to re register it, I could not get it to pass smog. I then joined the military in 2003 and left it in Oregon. Eventually it even went up for sale, though it was not advertized... Luckily it did not sell. In 2006 My buddy and I flew up with one way tickets and had a week to get the truck roadworthy enough to drive 1000 miles back to the base in California. Mike helped me out with some of the fab stuff including getting the seats mounted and getting the rims to fit. Truck got a quick tune up and we set off. My friends had bets as to how far out of town we would get before it broke down. Got it to California, failed smog there (not surprised) where I was living in the dorms and had no where to work on the truck, moved to some apartments and same story... Got the truck to Wayne and Daves Automotive and they did some engine work (rebuilt carb and other things involving smog parts) and got the truck passed smog. Got it registered but then it just sat. Stuck it in storage when I got out of the military in 2007 where it sat until 2011. April 2011 My buddy and I (same one that helped me drive the truck down to california) got a uhaul and packed up all my Cali stuff and put the truck on a trailer and "Uhauled" it back to Oregon. Once in Oregon I conned Skib into helping me with the tune up and some other things... More to follow, this story just got started

I got rearended a while ago (like 6 years). I need a new one. I feel like I need a new bed but the bed it's self isnt too bad. Mklotz took out some frustration on it with a large mallet to straighten it out.

I learned today that my truck will not shift into 6th... Yeah... I dont have a sixth. Damn honda. Also, I get talked to about my Datsun than I ever have for anything else in my life. Everyone told me a story about one they owned. Gas station attendant, Guy at the auto parts store, and even the lady at the DMV. It was fun for only having put a few miles on it.

I got a new Thermal Transmitter or Temp Sender and need to know how to replace it. I just got done searching my Haynes, Chilton, and Factory Manual. Nothing really that clear. Is it just a retaining nut holding it on? will it leak if I pull it out? Anything I should know? Thanks guys!

Edit: By leak I mean is it holding in the coolant?

Oh skib, remember that I put just water in the rad because I wanted to see if it would hold... yeah I looked at it today and it is green. Musta still had a fair amount of coolant. These senders dont screw in... smooth. But like I said, I think there is a retaining bolt or something.
