dirtboy411
soo as i posted pics of both front and rear bottom of my car, you could see tons of rust and dirt. ima clean it best i can. but while im in the process i want to see it there is a way i can change these to disc brakes all around. i already have it in the front. has some good grinding going on when rotating the rotors. mind myself havent flushed the lines or anything yet but just curious if i can be pointed in the right direction for an upgrade to bigger brake setup. these things are tiny :) lol. ima do the best i can to get these to work and if not i wanna see what options i can do. i seen a thread about 200sx and toyota paseo brake parts but i cant find the damn thing now. :( and cant remember if it was for the 411 or not. seemed like a good idea only if i knew it worked. datzenmike
You should really start a project thread and keep all this stuff in it. You may have posted some oics of it but I'm not searching through a half dozen threads about your 411 to try and find them. Take the wheels off and shoot some more of the brakes you do have. MikeRL411
The RL411 front disc brakes and drum rear brakes are more than sufficient! They were sized for "Production Sedan Road Race" specs so anything short of a suicide run is well covered by the standard brakes. If you butcher the car with a V6, all bets are off. MikeRL411
If you go to buy new front pads you will get a blank stare or drum brake pads at best. Most store data bases don't cover the RL411 if they even go back to 1967. Ask for 1968 510 front pads and you will get the right part. Remember, these are Lockheed disc brakes, not Bendix or Tevese so they are tapered to account for the corner mounted pivot point. Your brakes are most likely grinding because they are worn down to the backing plates. The pads are supposed to be wedge shaped, not flat to the disc. Quote Link to comment

Datsun411SSS
I have noticed mine wear out the same at an angle.... Is that normal ? Quote Link to comment
dirtboy411
ill keep the thread i had started about my car yesterday going. with pics and what i need and how my project is going. lol. i know what you meen about searching. it is a pain. but thanks for the pointers again. its rainging at my place so i cant do much now about taking the brake pads and checking stuff. otherwise it would be in the process as i talk right now. damn weather. grrrrr Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
That is NOT a "wear pattern", it's the normal design angle for the Lockheed system, by Akebono, brake pads. They pivot about one corner and do not slide horizontally like "normal" disc brakes. What you are seeing is the normal Lockheed disc brake "as new" condition. When the pads wear out the backing plates will both be parallel to the disc and complaining loudly. When it comes to these brakes what looks "normal" to the usual standard is abnormal [and please no "Young Frankenstein" jokes.] Quote Link to comment

dirtboy411
is there a place to get the akebono brake pads or are those no longer in production. Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
is there a place to get the akebono brake pads or are those no longer in production. Kragen and other parts shops have them. Raybestos and others still make [and sell] them. The trick is to get the new hire behind the counter to listen to you as you tell him that there really is a RL411 with disc brakes and that 1968 510 front brake pads are just what you need. "You know you have a problem when your car is older than the guy servicing it." I run into this "problem" on the rare occasions that I bring my RL411 into the dealer for transmission tuneup. I had the 67 411 front disc brakes put on my PL 410 and autocrossed for five years. Really no problem stopping at all, worked just great. Now getting up to enough speed was a problem but it was so much fun. I won my class one year too. Quote Link to comment
