I like the 720 KC 4x4s... I had an 80 2wd, 80 4wd, 85 KC 4x4 and now an 86 KC 4x4. Love em, that one looks pretty good. They are kinda slow with 31's. But great offroad in 4 low. Theres a few options you can do to pep it up a bit.

Looks good.

Should have 4.375 gearing..???...which is lower than the 83+, they have the 4.11

If you changed the gears in the rear...you would have also have to change the ones in the front diff.

No doubt you have a Z22....good block for an LZ

ya i really look forward to learning more about the truck. it runs good but has two issues. first it idles too high and kinda sporadically between 1500 and 1900 rpms and also the freaking turn signals don't work which is annoying. It has 127,kkk miles on it and i got it for 1700 which i don't feel is too bad.

Turn signal issue is common

The hazard switch is usually the cause, turn the turn signal on and move the hazard switch back and forth till the turn signal comes on (that should do the trick) These are known for the issue, of when its not in the right spot the signals wont work.

For the high idle, could be a few things, check for vacuum leaks, check timing, etc.

So your telling me that all 720s have the turn signal issue? That could be why mine dont work! lol Ill check tonight to see if that helps.

Its a known issue, i had it, ive seen other people have it, datzenmike helped me out with that a while ago... Pretty sure ive seen a few threads on here about it as well, and after he posted that problem solved...

You know what a miracle happened and this last time i drove the truck the signals magically worked. i just have to turn them on super slowly and they work just fine. haha! maybe another miracle will happen and i will have better gearing in it...

i tried looking up what you mean by an LZ but didn't find anything. what is it?

True. I spend over an hour proving the signal should work. Finally I pulled the 4 way flasher switch our and examined it. The switch is designed such that the regular signals are disconnected and the 4 way connected in the ON position. When you switch back to the OFF position the switch can travel too far and go right past the contacts. The trick is to move the switch slightly towards the ON position to connect them.

An LZ motor is a Z22 motor (like you have) but with an older better breathing L series head and manifolds on it.

My 720 is 2wd standard cab and I love it. I'm 6'1" though so I removed the back of the seats. Now me and my old lady just ride around bouncing on springy cushions.

My turn signal issue was with my hazard light. I just soldered the wire back where it should be and voila, the turn signals worked. After months of overcomplicating it.

i had checked my hazard switch and it all looked nice and soldered. I think what the problem with mine was/is that first of all the turn signal switch was suuuuuper dirty so it needed to be cleaned out a bit and also it needs to be turned on slowly or else i think it passes the contact point. So keeping it clean and turning them on slowly has been working.

Last thing i need to figure out is why the truck shakes so much at 30-35mph. i feel i need to replace the front tires cus they are pretty beat up. I already replaced the rears with barely used Runway Enduro MT's that I got for 130bucks installed and balanced and all that which i think was a good deal. The new rears cut the gnarly shaking down by probably 60 percent.

Oh i forgot that i also need to get my windshield wiper situation under control. I need new wiper arms and wipers because the ones now spin on the part where it connects to the spinning mechanism (not sure what to call it) and they point in random directions after a few cycles. haha hilarious going down the road with a windshield wiper sticking out past my side mirror!

12 mil nuts holding the wiper arms are cranked really tight...?

Another thing i noticed with these 720s, sometimes the lights take a minute to come on. Sometimes take a few seconds to switch from lows to high beams. Shoot just a tiny bit of wd40 on the contacts. Cures it. Done this on all my 720s and it works wonders. You dont even have to take anything apart, just look where the signal stock goes into and give it a lil bit...

As far as all the shaking, have you checked your u-joint? As that goes it will shake your truck a lot. It starts out at certain speeds, then as it gets worse it will pretty much do it all the time. Except when you are going fast enough for the centrifugal force to straighten out your drive shaft!

tires are pretty big, might have flat spots if it sat too. maybe out of balance. Bigger tires put wear on ball joints and such too. U joint is going out on my truck (the shaft between transmission and transfer case), but it just clanks no shake yet...

Mine started out as a clank. Then slowly the shake, then next thing you know my truck shakes so bad the alternator snaps a bolt in half on my way to work. Scared the shit right out of me having that shaking so bad and hearing the belt flailing around under my hood.
