Hey guys I'm new to these forums but I was curious if anybody has a detailed write up on swapping in a KA24DE engine compared to the stock Z24 in my 1986 Nissan 720? I understand some fabrication will be needed but I havn't a clue of where to start ! Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you all. Just message me email's, pictures, directions, etc.

No fabrication needed.

Get a KA motor from a hardbody pickup, it will bolt right up to your transmission, and to your motor mounts. You will need the wiring also, but i suggest getting the intake and shit from a 240sx and using the wiring/ecu from that. the hardbody wiring is built into the main wiring and is a pain in the ass to separate. You will need to wire in 4 wires, with relays, and last but not least a higher pressure fuel pump. (may need a return line also)

Thats pretty much it.

For the wires, check out the How to wire a SR/KA into anything thread here on the board, that should get you where you need to go.

If using a 240 motor from a kae or kade defenetly gonna need to modify or make motor mounts. And a the steering link and sway bar is right in the way on the later 720s best option like said above is 240 harness and intakes on the truck blocks 12v or 16v ka's

Thanks alot man, its much appreciated. Would you by any chance just have some pictures of somebody doing the swap or something similar just so I can get a general overlook? I think I'm just going to scrap the DOHC idea and keep it SOHC like you said with the HardBody KA truck engines, but throw in a turbo

Sorry, no pictures or write ups. Thats just the info haha.

Something i didn't think about, is fan. I think hardbody had an electric fan? you may want to snag that also and wire it up. If not, then nevermind. Datzenmike might have more info.

Icehouse is selling his own products for a KA/Sr swap, its a universal fuse/relay kit. Theres diagrams on how to wire it up also.

Alright then I'll do some more research and try to make up a parts list, the only thing I'm worried about is the fuel tank issue I've heard from a couple different sources I might have to get a new tank as well but we shall see what I find. Would it be a good idea to just get an entire engine/tranny combo? The entire truck only has 110k on it but I feel as if the old transmission would lack the performance needed for the newer more powerful engine.

The 720 transmission is plenty strong enough to handle the KA, along with your rear end. Its designed to haul loads, and be a work horse. Never hurts to have a backup trans but i wouldn't worry about it.

As far as the fuel tank, thats the first i have heard of it. A fuel tank is a fuel tank. It should have a return fuel line so i dont see what the issue is, i do know you will need a higher flow fuel pump...

A truck KA is lighter and the oil pan better fitting into another truck.

You do not need to use a car intake, a truck intake will work, however If you do use a car intake you can also use the separate EFI wiring harness instead of sorting the EFI wires that are bundled into the truck main harness. (the car intake looks nicer too)

Type KA24E (or) KA24DE into a 620 into the search function upper right of every page. Other than you are doing a 720 much of the 620 swap is similar in scope. You have the advantage of being able to use your 720 5 speed whereas the 620 transmission must be replaced.

Awesome.  Thank you.  Seen lots of 620 swaps so far but not so many 720.  I guess my main question is with the motor mounts.  The only swap I saw was with a 240 KA and he explained about the oil pan and also had to modify mounts.  Didn't know if the truck KA bolted up to the 720 mounts.   Thanks guys!
