I ran a Z20 5 speed in my 70 521 with a 520 drive shaft for over 250,000 miles with no problems.  Eveven hauled over 1 ton sand loads with it more than once.  Ran it down the freeway at 85 to 90 miles an hour all the time traveling back and forth fro Bagdad AZ to Phoenix AZ.

this sounds fun ... but hot ..... no ac im a wuss

Put the lower carrier bearing bracket on and tried to patch the exhaust with some exhaust bandage wrap.

But it was futile. I drove her like 12 miles and the exhaust blew right through the bandage wrap. *sigh* I gave it one last shot but it's not gonna happen. Truck won't be going to canby. I will be there with the 510. See you guys in a few days.

This is where she'll be, awaiting exhaust surgery when I return.

WTF happened there?

When the driveshaft broke it fucked shit up under the truck, including punching a hole in the exhaust. I tried to temp fix it with some exhaust bandage but the exhaust blew that shit out pretty quickly. all that crusty white stuff is the sealer.

New pipe. Per busts nut's suggestion, I cut half of the expanded end off to use it on the other end to have a better seal.

Not the prettiest welds, but they'll do their job and I have a quiet exhaust again. Welding on a rack, upside down is really really hard. lol. Hence the bird shit welds. Eventually I'd like to redo the whole exhaust, but the truck will have to wait till I do the 510 first. All in all im happy with the results and I can drive the truck again.
