But at least on the B210 you can lose 100 pounds with a bumper swap. :P Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You sure?? The 510 gas a huge H-190 rear axle, same as the 521/620 an 2wd 720 truck. The 210 has an H150 and tiny springs. Also the 210 has a small A14 motor and even smaller tranny. Tires are basically rubber bands on rims. I had a new 76 2dr and it was light. Quote Link to comment
NWOleman
yeah that's what i'm getting at. I want a car that gets awesome gas mileage. Seems like those a14 and a15's get better mpg than the L motor's. Was thinking bout getn a wagon and putting a A15 in it. Is that a crazy idea? Quote Link to comment

Then do the smart thing and either build a 5spd B210, or build a 1200. A 1200 is about 1600 pounds. All these other cars are porkers by comparison. The 5spd B210 was rated at 50mpg. You're not going to beat that, short of a diesel swap. Was thinking bout getn a wagon and putting a A15 in it. Is that a crazy idea? Yup. Quote Link to comment

Well, a lot of the B210s have catalytic converters, much heavier bumpers, more creature comforts, more elaborate interiors, more wiring, just more of everything. I recall at one time seeing the factory rating of a '78 B210 as being 2250. My friend's '78 hatch weighs in at 2120 with no bumpers (100 pounds give or take), cat removed (8-10 pounds), and back seat tossed (25-30 pounds). Quote Link to comment
NWOleman
Just got my 510 wagon and i'm stoked! It was on portland craigslist for 600 bucks! I would have went with a b210 but i wanted a wagon to haul the kids around. So now i gotta get a A15 for it! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
nominal weight B210 hatchback is approx. 2000 pounds. B110 is 1640 pounds 510 Wagon is over 2200 pounds. Automatic models weigh more, I think 60 pounds more. These are huge differences. The 510 is 10% heavier than the B210. Quote Link to comment
