hi, i'm fairly new here. i see a lot of discussion about engine swaps and my truck needs one. i have a '69 521 with a j13 motor. the motor is on its last legs.

i am NOT mechanically inclined and i am looking for someone to do an engine swap for me in southern oregon. four-cylinder, v6, v8..... whatever. maybe you have an a15 laying around. but i need something. can anyone help? my email is pinholeman(at)hotmail(dot)com. be sure to put something in the subject bar because it will go into my junk mail box. thanks in advance.

Pinhole man, you may want to look into the MGB british B-series engines. The Datsun J-series were copies of them. I think even the motormounts are the same. There is a 410 or 411 wagon on here from australia that has the MGB 1800 swapped in. You will need to use the Datusn manifolds I think because of steering shaft clerances. That would be a nice upgrade in power for your 521. And if it bolts in would be the cheapest alternative other than finding a J13, J15, J16 or J18.

Any other engine swap will be quite a bit of work/labor. Just something to think about.

i'm afraid that if i get a british engine i'll have even more troubles than i have now... particularly when it comes to finding parts. should i just get the j13 rebuilt and call it good? i was hoping for a little more power but i'm old and can live without it.

jesusno2.... im interested. i could easily load my m/c in the bed and drive up if it was worth it.

banzai510(hainz)... my only concern about getting another truck is that i'd be buying someone else's headache. i like mine because there is very little rust.

my head begins to spin when i consider possibilities, consequences and costs but i really like datsun pickups. i had a 68 520 when i was an undergrad at wazzu. it was an old boeing plant truck. it ran like a champ until someone plowed into me.

Any ka swap is worth while. Damn good engine with fuel injection. I'm familiar with the sohc ka swaps mainly, havent done a dohc one yet but i'm assuming its about the same effort. You can PM me and we can discuss it further if ya want. Finding a good donor engine/trans is fairly easy to do around here and up north. their is a fair bit of expense involved but way way way worth it in the end if ya stick to your guns. I have a list of everything needed to swap, but your would require fabricated motor mounts so a set a L series rubber mounts would be needed but I think you can just buy those anywhere.
