Newish Datsun owner. Recommendations?

Hello everyone! I'm a fairly new Datsun owner. I picked my 720 up earlier this summer.

I've put 13,000 miles on it since then!

That being said, I need some help. Maybe just a recommendation for a mechanic but I definetly know enough to know what I don't know. I'm just looking to have someone give it a look through to see if there are any major problems before I get into putting much money into it. I've got some small problems (turn signals don't work, one brake light out) electrically, though mechanically seems pretty sound.

I'd like to do alot of what seems to be pretty standard issue stuff, carb swap, lower the back end still. Right now I'm riding ratrod style with the front dropped down and the back still up.

I live in Seattle, and work in Everett. I'll take my truck anywhere that they know what they are talking about.

If anyone knows where I can pick up the side emblems too that would be awesome! If not I'm going to have some custom ones engraved but I'd really like to keep some parts of this original.

Turn the turn signal to on, left or right. Now try working the emergency flasher switch off and on several times to clean the contacts then set to OFF, and then move the switch just slightly towards ON. I have trouble shot several 720 with turn signal problems and this gets them going. The emergency switch goes too far past the position where it should be in the OFF position and disconnects the turn signals. Moving slightly to the ON position connects them up. When you hit the spot the turn signal should start flashing.

You can also swap the turn signal and the emergency flasher units. They are just under the steering column above the brake peddle. If they start working the flasher (now in the emergency flasher position) is bad.

So after sitting for a little over an hour trying that I don't think that's it. I tried switching it left or right, and wiggled between ON and OFF slowly for quite some time. I thought there was a glimmer of hope for a moment when I had it switched to the right and the right blinker came on, but then I realized it was just the hazard kicking in the right light first.

I switched the units and it still just operated the hazards.

I removed the column to dust inside, and I have a loose wire on the underside of the hazard light switch.

When I first bought the truck the turn signals didn't work at all. About two weeks into having it the signals turned back on, and did this back and forth for a couple months. Now for about the last two months they just haven't worked. I've followed the wiring and I can't see where there is anything wrong.

As I said before I'd like to have it looked at for any forseeable mechanical issues. I road trip alot in this truck, and commute from Seattle to Everett everday in it. I' just like to make sure my transmission isn't going to be going out on me while I'm somewhere off in the olympics.

I really appreciate your help!

The switch when in the OFF position has to connect up two wires or the signals won't work. If you have a loose wire it has to be either a Green or a Green/White stripe. Just solder it back on. Or replace the switch with one from the wreckers..

You are a lifesaver!

I just finished up soldering the loose wire and sure enough you were right.

It was a green and yellow stripe one.

Well I'm already glad I posted. I've been reading things on this site for awhile, just haven't posted anything. I'll get pictures up of my 720 when I get a chance.
