I had a '78 GX (not familiar with a GTX). It had an A14 with a dogleg 5-speed. It had sat with a blown head gasket for several years so I never actually drove it. Many of the frontend (ball joints and tie-rod ends) components are same as early 510, so I would assume that ZX struts can be used. The rearend should be H-150 with a 3.70 gear with leaf springs. The GX was like a higher performing car over the standard. It had stiffer valve springs with are sought after by guys that want forced induction. The GX head is typically used in race applications.

 

What year is the B210?

 

 

 

  • Standard - least expensive model
  • Semi-Deluxe - for Vans
  • Deluxe - upgraded model
  • Super-Deluxe - for Vans
  • GL (Grand Luxe) - luxury model
  • GX (Grand Luxe special), available as 4-dr or Coupe
    • JDM: Highest trim level
      • Some GX models had the A12T or A14T twin-carb engine
      • Other GX models had the A12S or A14S single-carb engine

Engine

Most B210s outside of North American were fitted with the redesigned A12 engine, hence the 120 in "120Y". North American models were fitted *only* with the high-line engines, namely the A13 for 1974, and the A14 for 1975-1978.

 

USA GX models use the single-carb engine (A14S). Some JDM GX models used the A12S or A14S single carb engine, and some used twin-carb engines(A12T or A14T).

 

 

Transmission

A12 and A13 models were fitted with the 56-Series transmission, a four speed. A14 models, having extra torque, required a heavier-duty transmission so the the 60-Series transmission 4-speed was fitted.

 

A12T Five-speed models (GFK, 1973-1974) used the 56-series 5-speed.

 

A14 Five-speed models (GFK, 1976-1978) used the large 63-Series transmission.

 

 

Differential

1974-1975 models with A12 and A13 models used the Hitachi H145 differential.

 

A14 models used the H150 differential, which was rated to cope with the extra torque.

 

1976-1978 models all used the H150, including A12 models.

 

 

Brakes and Suspension

All North American B210s used the large disk brakes from the <a href="http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=PB210" title="PB210" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(37, 82, 213); text-decoration: none; ">PB210 series, along with heavy-duty steering linkage from the Datsun 610.

 

Early A12 models used front drum brakes and lightweight steering linkage. 76-78 A12 models used a lightweight disc brake with heavy duty steering linkage.

 

Spring rates are nearly identical to Datsun 1200, even though the B210 was 20-25% heavier. This resulted in a noticeably smoother ride.

Parts interchange..

 

 

 

Strict Interchange

Close interchange means the parts fit as-is without modification.

 

  • Ashtray (rear): 4-dr is same as B110
  • Armrest
  • Coat hanger and Assist strap (?)
  • 1974 Room lamp (dome light)
  • 1974 Muffler (has resonator!)
  • 1974 USA Mirror
  • (interior) Handbrake cover (new part is larger than original part)
  • Almost all engine parts except block and fuel pump
  • Fuel filter, Oil filter
  • A12- and A13-powered versions rear axle assembly (see notes in Differential article)
  • Front Seats. Use the B110 rails with the B210 seats
  • Leaf spring parts (except main leaf)
  • A12 models -- entire 56-series Transmission
  • Rear brake shoes & drums
  • Radiator (smaller models are strict interchange, larger ones fit with simple bracket extensions)
  • Wheels, 12" as-is, 13" with tire change
  • Tires (13" tires require corresponding 13" wheels)
    • Front Seat belts are a three-point with retractor that bolts to the B-pillar. Just like B110 seat belts. The advantage is they are a superior single-belt design without a separate shoulder belt.

Swap Parts

Modification is needed

 

  • Console. Large size looks promising
  • <a href="http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=63-Series_Transmission" title="63-Series Transmission" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(37, 82, 213); text-decoration: none; ">63-Series Transmission 5-speed from 1976-1978 models
  • Clutch slave cylinder: 11/16 instead of 3/4 of B110
  • Strut swaps into B110, as complete with rotor and brake, if using some of the B210 lower suspension parts
  • Coil spring (after cutting for length, B210 is longer). Virtually identical spring rate, so no advantage

There was no B210 GTX. It is probably just GX. It does not have any extra performance over other B210s (the B110 GX was a powerhouse, but not the B210 GX).

 

GX was a higher trim level for B210, so you got things like carpet and radio, thus heavier, thus less performance than the simple 2-door sedan.
